They do still have spacial torpedos. We see them every time they show the armory (there calmly waiting in there launhcers to be used, and I hope they are)
-
Makes sense. Didn't think of that.
Now, just to point out, last not we saw Enterprise fire its aft photonic torpedos from its Spacial torpedo tubes. I can only assume that they droped the seperate tubes from "The Expanse" in favore of some sort of link up with the Photonic launcher and the Spacial tubes.
-
They also sound like there is one on the ship, but if you pay attention, you notice that there is only two spacial torpedo tubes in there. The ship has four foward facing STorp tubes. So logically, that would mean that the armory is inbetween two tubes. So another similar room is inbetween the other one (and mabye a third for the two aft tubes).
Now if thats the case, wouldn't that mean that Enterprise has two foward photonic torpedo tubes. Even though in 'The Expanse", we clearly see only one foward tube.
And don't get me started on the fact that Enterprise only has three phase cannons, but can fire them from at least 12 differnt spots on the ship.

I actually got a couple of my friends to sit down and whatch "The Xindi". At the very least, they don't try and shut me up when I talk about trek anymore.
-
Well, I'm trying to download a episode, and it says its gonna take 30 hours.
Mabye its not a popular one.

This is actually my first time in this part of the website, so I'll just get start to the point.
Does Starfleet have a standing army?
Now we do know that Starfleet is the defense agency of the Federation, so it would need the ability to wage a war (even defensive ones require a army of some sort). Now, I have brought this up on another board and there are usaually two arguments.
Yes, Starfleet has a standing army. The Starfleet Marines.
No, Starfleet woudn't need a army because they would just need superior space forces.
Now, we have seen Starfleet officers in combat situations. Twice on DS9 (of course, I should point out now I'm referring to the 24th century Starfleet, not the 23rd or 22nd century). Once defending a colony from Klingons. And again holding a Dominion sub-space relay. Some say this isn't enough. There just security with body armor. I can't dispute that possibilitie. But I have come up with a example that would show Starfleets need for a army.
Septimus III.
It was a Cardassian planets that was defended by the 11th Order (about 500,000 men) who were defeated by 15 Klingon Divisions on the ground. Yes, ground. It was stated that the 15 divisions were landed on the planet. Now, it would have been impossible for the Klingons to provide divisions to Federation worlds. So would Starfleet have divisions of there own defending colonies? The Klingons can't be the only ones fighting the ground war. I'm sure there were even a couple Romulan Legions thrown in at one point.
So, what do you guys think? Is there a Starfleet ground force?

Well, I guess you can put Fuller on the inactive list. Died in the line of duty.

If you take a look at new USMC uniforms, there camo sceme, while still green, desert, etc. color, has almost the same pattern. And there ugly too.
I expected this uniform. A jumpsuit, because this is Star Trek, and thats what people wear in the future. And the camo because its just the natural evolution of current uniforms. Currently, they aren't developing big uniforms (other then Land Warrior) but are developing jumpsuit like combat uniforms.

In Broken Bow, a shuttlepod was able to take off during a storm with 6 people and one engine broken. If it can do that, it could carry three more with two working engines.
-
I actually don't believe it has to do with the Xindi at all. That was a future formed without Archer, and most likely, the NX-01.
Now, the Federation was never formed, history was changed. So, in the 26th century (It was the 26th century, right?), Earth, which is a member of the Federation, never destroyed the Xindi homeworld.
All so, I just get the feeling that the Xindi super weapon won't leave any rock behind (what I mean is, there won't be a Earth left).

O'Briens rank actually has another grey pip at the top of the chevrons.
I know all military ranks (except for Coast Guard) and a insignia like that would make him a Senior Chief Petty Officer, but theres no way to prover my belief.
As for him being referred to Chief of Operations, in the Navy and Coast Guard, rank is usually differnt from the differnt departments.
Also, O'Brien's actuall rank was referred to twice. I don't remember the episodes names, but I do know the situation.
The first was on TNG on the episode after the Best of Both Worlds. Worf's adoptive father said it was nice to see another Chief Petty Officer when he saw O'Brien.
The Second was when Bashir and O'Brien were captured by the Jem'Hadar that were trying to break their addiction to the white. He was referred to as a Chief Petty Officer.
I hope this helps a little.

In my opinoin, they are probaly gonna keep T'Pol as first officer and Trip as second officer. However, this would be a good conflict they could have on the show. Trip may finally want the position since he was suppose to get it from the start.
-
I understand.
Starfleet is a military, but not the kind that goes out waging war. If I had to pick a branch of the US Armed Services, it would have to be like the Coast Guard.
-
1. Enterprise wouldn't be called Enterprise. If it were, it would have to be the ship SS Enterprise thats seen in the bar in First Flight.
2. They would use low yeild laser cannons, which would do much against other ships, since it would take a lot of power to generate enough heat.
3. Enterprise would report to the United Earth Space Probe Agency. They would say UESPA (pronounced You-spa) on the show.
4. they wouldn't call Archer sir, since they aren't in the military. They would all call him John.
5. They would have nuclear missiles, whicht would kill a couple of their crewmen evertime they fired them because of the radiation.
I know there could be plasma weapons, but thats not "CANON"
-
Are these from the shows or are these from websites. There is a differnce, since "canon" is what we see on screen.....
Starfleet implies the ambition of humans to travel the stars. Not that they can, but that they want to .
-
I don't even think we should accept UESPA as fact since it was only mentioned in three episodes, and then replaced by Starfleet Command.
There both the same thing, they just changed the name for the show. In my opinion, UESPA never existed.
Archer made a reference to the "Space Agency" that was responsible for the Terra Nova mission. Since he didn't call it UESPA, I'm going to assume it never existed.
Unlike some who are irrationally set on "canon", I can learn to change.
-
Mabye he does have a big family. But he was protective of his little sister. And I'm sure the fact he couldn't protect her from this kinda hard for him.
-
I don't know, while UESPA would have been great for those who loved TOS, I wouldn't have liked it that much.
-
They intentionally didn't show them. They would have been rushed. So why not spend the next month so when June 24th (production for season 3 begins) they will have distintive uniforms and actors who will be able to show up for several episode.
-
We could assume that Archer's Starfleet is absubed into the Federation Starfleet. Meaning there differnt agencys.
Like how the Continental Army was absorbed by the US Army.
-
Well, commandos have been assigned to Enterprise, but there not Starfleet. When Admiral Forrest and Captain Archer were discussing it, Forrest was suprised that Archer had made a request to have a military presence on Enterprise.
I can assume that General Kasey is the commander of the Earth Defense Force (thats what I'm going to call it until someone tells me otherwise) and the commandos are not Starfleet.
Which does reaffirm my opinion that Starfleet of the 22nd century is not a army.
The Starfleet of the 23rd and 24th centuries are militaries since they seemed to fight wars. Why would a exploration agency have a policy of troop deployment on the front lines if it isn't a military...
-
Well, they said atomic weapons. But I'm sure they meant nuclear weapons, while primative anti-matter weapons would have been more beliveble.
-
If anything....
Click for Spoiler:
The conflict with the Xindi would make Starfleet able to wage war. The NX-02 hasn't even been built by 'The Expanse'. This attack may start a mass production of NX class ships. Even a mass upgrade of the warp 2 fleet to warp 3 or 4. Then they could fight. -
I have put together all of the spoilers I have found on the internet and I'm going to post them here.
Remember, these are all rumors until the episode airs.
Click for Spoiler:
-The Xindi attack will kill 7 million people, including Trip's sister-The Xindi attack Earth because they have information that says Earth will be responsible for the destruction of there homeworld in the 25th century
-The Klingon High Council sends Duras to capture Archer so he may regain his honor
-While returning to Earth, Enterprise is attackted, and disabled, by Duras
-Before Duras can board Enterprise, three Starfleet ships warp in and fight Duras off
-The Starfleet ships will not be NX vessels, but will be warp 2 ships
-Archer learns that the Xindi are planning a second, more massive attack against Earth
-Archer may have got the information from future guy
-Archer convinces Starfleet to send Enterprise to the Delphic Expanse, but Starfleet upgrades Enterprise for combat
-Part of these upgrades is a commando team
-The Vulcan High Command orders T'Pol off Enterprise
-T'Pol, in a sense of loyalty, resigns her commssion in order to stay on Enterprise.
And a couple spoilers for the third season
-The opening theme will be changed to both reflect the new direction of the series, and to make it more Star Trek because of complaints.
-T'Pol will have a new hairdo and catsuit

Great episode. Loved the ending.
But I can't give it a 10/10 since they could have easily had a couple of Starfleet vessels in Sharans place.
9.5/10
