  1. IMO there should be a seperate forum for TAS for several reasons.

1 - We had unique aliens exclusively to TAS.

2 - IMO TAS was much closer to GR's grand vision.

3 - TAS presented unique challenges impossible to replicate at the time with live action sequences.

4 - TAS was closer to "canon" than many had thought.

5 - Many Trekkies, myself included, consider TAS as a continuation of Kirk, Spock and rest of Enterprise's five year mission and regard it as TOS's unofficial fourth season. I'm referring to some of TAS episodes that seem to be a continuation of TOS episodes from all three seasons.

  2. UPN, a new network premiering in January of 1995 wanted a Trek show of it's own.  DS9 was locked in syndication deals, so VOY was developed as a result.  Season 1 would have been about 20 episodes like DS9's first season, but I believe four of them were produced, but not aired till season 2.  "The 37's" was originally going to be the season one finale, but became the season two premiere.

That correct. The Voyager companion says that 20 episodes were produced but only 16 were shown in season 1.

That is not what I heard. The second season opener, the 37's was boasted as "something never before been done by a starship" - To land on a planet.

Voyager was originally intended for a September launch but it was delayed in due to the Bujold incident. For a time Voyager was in jeopardy of being halted before its launch. Taylor, Piller and Berman did an excellent job of finding Kate Mulgrew, reshot the pilot episodes and bringing Voyager to air in January. (TV Guide - What really happened to Star Trek Voyager article, 1995)

  3. The one reason why most people didn't like Voyager is because the first 2 seasons were fairly slow. Not a lot happened, it was all a little bland. But after "Scorpion", the series took off. Seasons 4-7 were absolutely amazing as a stand-alone series. That's what sets it apart. They aren't close to the Federation, and there was a much broader spectrum in which to devise plot and character development. If you watched it religiously, like myself, you would notice the connection between the characters is better than any series in the past, minus the TOS crew, which is pretty evenly matched. That one ship is all they had, and it was their home and they were a family, working together toward a common goal. To some Trek fans this seems like a boring addition to the universe, and to each their own. I personally think Voyager exceeds TNG and DS9 in terms of plot and character development. So if you are thinking about getting the seasons on DVD, you may want to wait until season 3 comes out and start there. Then if you enjoy it, go back and pick up the others.

I disagree. The first three seasons had some of Voyager's best episodes. Everything from character development to new alien first contacts. I started loosing interest after Kes was replace by a Borg babe in the fourth season. I found the fourth season lacking in several key areas. The rest of the fifth, sixth and final seasons were filled with recycled themes and plots. I found this boring. NTL I am going to collect all seven seasons all because Voyager continued GR's original Star Trek vision - "To explore new worlds, discover new civilizations and boldy go where no one had gone before."

    Let the journey begin.

  4. I thought they were running the whole series straight through the week...guess i'll have to check again...lol, and no wonder the walmart dude looked art me funny when i bought 45 dollars worth of VHS tapes... :)

All 178 episodes? I doubt this would ever happen. FYI - Spike will have a marathron but they will run only the first three seasons from Emissary to The Search Part II. Base on the pattern I've seen them using in their TNG showing, it's logical to assume this network will broadcast these episodes and these episodes only but at random after the marathron. I am afraid you maybe in for some disappointing viewing.

I really wish Space would pick up and renew their contract for Star Trek reruns. Thus far this is the only Canadian network which had been rerunning TOS, TNG and Voyager episodes in their proper sequence but for some reasons ignored DS9.

  5. Only 20 episodes were filmed for season one though...

Would you please list the 24 episodes? :)

Well, the official site says that there were sixteen episodes in season one. Which does seem to correspond to your "twenty episodes for season one originally, and then four taken away" thing you said earlier. And it does look like "The 37's" was the season two premiere. So it looks like your analysis is right, Captain. Perhaps they released the tapes a little differently than they aired the episodes? It's possible.

    Nope.

The VHS library had eight tapes with each tape containing two episodes in accordance of broadcast dates. Caretaker was on tape one. The rest of the season was spread over seven additional tapes marking the end of the first season. The thing that got me wondering is why didn't the DVD design team transfer the artwork from the VHS library - re Janeway with Voyager in the foreground and the entire crew on the back jacket - onto the disks? It surely could beat the awfully painfully plain look of this box set disks, I daresay.

  6. It seems that Star Trek is having an entirely new form of entertainment evolved from an old idea, a Star Trek Theme Park! More official information is listed below... So what are your thoughts about the new place and will you go?

Trekland: Paramount Announces the Final Frontier of Fun!

Paramount Parks, a leading developer and operator of regional theme parks and location-based entertainment attractions, has announced plans for an all-new, completely original theme park based on one of entertainment's biggest franchises — Star Trek. The new park, to be called "Trekland," is slated to open by the year 2010 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, future home to Starfleet and the spot where Kirk landed a cloaked bird-of-prey.

In this bold move, Paramount Parks offers a new destination that promises to be "The Final Frontier of Fun" as visitors from around the world come to seek out new rides and new adventures.

The proposed attractions include: the Antimatter Horn; It's a Thrall World; Orion Pirates of the Caribbean; Great Nanoseconds with Mr. Data; Captain Picard's Wild Ride; Vash Mountain; Country Targ Jamboree; Haunted Mess Hall; Janus VI Cruise; Enchanted Horga'hn Room, Main Street U.F.P.; Starfleet Tours; Morn-o-rail; Odo-pia; Harry Mudd Hatter; the U.S.S. Columbia starship; Dr. Noonien Soong's Treehouse; and the Cyrano Jones and the Tribbles of Doom Adventure.

Different sections of the park will be themed by easily identifiable areas such as "Final Frontierland," "Risaland," "Mirror Universeland," "Vorta's Weyountown" and "Return to Tomorrowland."

(Disclaimer: The name Trekland, and the proposed rides and attractions bear no resemblance to things living or otherwise, on this planet or the next. Any resemblance is purely coincidental if, in fact, there is any resemblance. But there isn't, so if any of the attractions resemble names of other attractions at any theme parks in the world today it is purely an alternate fiction. Herewith, and in perpetuity.)

    More news as it breaks…

It's an April's Fool joke and you fell for it! :P Take a careful look at the photo. It's a doctored sign for the Hilton in Las Vegas.

I do like the slang "Cyano Jones and the Tribbles of Doom." Pretty original, no?

  7. Typing.gif Had you play this game from Starsphere? What do you think of it?

For me I had played it but I found it lacking in several key areas. For one thing the controls are difficult to understand. The graphics are nice but there were no training area.

    Warning - Spoiler Ahead

    ****

In this game you are a fighter pilot under Captain Sulu's command. Your primary mission is to safeguard the Excelsior from her enemies. Your goal is to reach a subdimensional rift where you can go home. The game had ten levels of difficuities. Each level had their own seperate challenges and difficulties. As you progress through each level, your skills via points and score will increase.

    ****

This game had a similar look, style and feel as Starfleet Academy - Cadet Briefing from Interplay except it doesn't have training scenerios nor interactive submenu teasers. If you enjoy playing SA, then you might enjoy this Trek game.

Overall I found this game is above a typical FPS game. The bottom line is it still can't beat Elite Force, which, IMO, is Star Trek's best game to date.

  8. Thus far the buzz around the Internet grapevine said Enterprise might get axe if its ratings doesn't start improving.

So here are some ideas to save this dismal effort to keep Star Trek on TV. What if B&B were cast out? Would it make a difference? Could the brass at Paramount save face by redefining Enterprise with Captain Robert April? Are you willing to start watching if this reset is implimented? Ponder.gif Something to ponder, no?

  9. After reading "The Lives Of Dax" (Which is a must for any Dax fan, There are small stories that chronicle the lives of each Dax host), I would have to say "Lela."

    <_<

I strongly recommend this book as well. It's one of the best DS9 novels I had ever read. Grin-Nod.gif I wish I have more stories about Torias Dax though. He sounded like someone even Scotty would envive.

  10. Interesting. This is a completely 180 degree turn from the responses I had viewed at a related discussion board I belong to. You may heard of it as TrekBBS.

Frankly it's nice to have the Borg as a continuing adversary for Voyager but this series had made them weak. Just take a look at the ways Janeway and company had kicked the Borgs' *buttocks* over the latter half of the seasons and you will know what I mean.

  11. I loved that show, why did it have to end, especially in that really annoying way <_<

i never did see the end, how did they end it?

They got to the right version of Earth, but in the future, and just left it like that.

sounds like a rather crappy ending to a good show. par for the course.

    Ditto.

This series had some pretty good original concepts even though they aren't exactly new. It started with the question - "What if..." and ended with "What happened?" It ended on a whimper. It's too bad Jerry O'Connell called it quits after three seasons. I was expecting a romantic relationship to develop between Wade and Quinn. Instead we had, of all things, a romantic attraction between Remi and Wade, getting Quinn a brother, and finding out they are actually adopted and originated from yet another parallel Earth. Stupid move. They even replaced the entire cast with Remi being the only member left from the original group of sliders starting in the fourth season.

Why did the producers chose this route is beyond me.

  12. The entire second half of Season Seven is one big story arc spamming ten episodes. I think that should say a lot about this series with its continuing Dominion/UFP war as a backstory starting in season four finale and Sisko's well deserved promotion in The Adversary in season three.

This is one of the reasons why it is my favorite Trek series. It had the heart of a poet and spirit of a warrior.

    DS9 rules! <_<

  13. Thanks for posting this, TRexx. I'm sure the people at BringBackKirk.com like this news. Keep on posting any other news you find!

I endeavor to not be deterred by those who appear to seek mere idle quarrel. :frusty:

    --------------

    That's a good one! Funny-Above.gif

IMO if Shatner come back it's more than likely he will play Kirk's great grandfather, someone older than George Kirk. I know Trek novels aren't consider "cannon" but Shatner has a good sense of humour. Who knows? He may even singlehandedly connect his Trek novels to the Enterprise era and change the course of Trekiverse history. Leave it to Captain Kirk to save the day, right? <_<

  14. yea i heard they changed the model but didnt catch deck 29 in nemey.. y did they add to the model? just because or was there a specific reason.. i know it wouldnt b the same reason as y they changed the ent a in the wrath of khan because it was all computer animated

It does make me wonder where the extra decks come from. NTL it's better than the 78 decks seen in TTF onboard the Enterpirse-A labelled upside down but not by much, no?

  15. IMO I think it's time we break away from TNG and introduce some new blood into the Trekiverse.

Afterall "It's a big galaxy, Mister Scott," Uhura - TOS.

I like to see the introduction of TNG characters from other starships in Starfleet such as the Lexington, Excalibur or Sutherland. Where were they during the Dominion/UFP war? Were they in the conflict against the Borg? What were their crew like? I like the return of Shelby or other Trekiverse characters introduced in the Trek series except Enterprise.

If I have my choice, I would bring Piller and Taylor as producers back onboard but leave B&B out of the projects. Trek actors such as Burton, Frakes, McNeil and Dawson had directorial experience. Let them work their magic from behind the scenes.

This maybe too much to ask but that is what I like to see in the next Trek movie.

  16. Some advancements had already happened. NASA's experimental deep space probe, Deep Space One, use nuclear generated power to push the probe to ten percent of the speed of light. Its advanced ion propulsion drive exceeded many expectations. Wouldn't it be great if NASA launch another probe with a second generation ion drive and call it impulse, one step closer to the Trekiverse anti-matter powered warp drive?

  17. Recently NASA probes had discovered pockets of methane on the Red Planet. Scientists speculated this can either be the result of bacteria or volcanic activities. Could this lead to evidence of ancient life on Mars? What do you think?

  18. Fascinatiing theories. Here are something else for you to consider. Didn't the Borg first started assimilating technology - re Q Who? but later started assimilate cultures and individuals - re Best of Both Worlds? Seven and the Borg Queen (Sounds like a nice name for a duet, no? :wow:) said the Hive Mind of the Collective had existed for more than ten thousand years. Weren't the Hansons originally investigating rumours of something dangerous happening in the Neutral Zone only to find the Borg cube that led to their fates onboard the Raven in the DQ? assimilate.gif Scary thoughts, NTL, no?
