  1. Q is one of my favorite characters, other than Deanna, Beverly, and Data course. So I had a really hard time with this poll.

My very top favorites( which is more than half the list, lol) are:

Deja Q " Oh very clever worf, eat any good books lately?

Qpid "Sir, I must protest, I am NOT a merry man!"

Tapestry "Welcome to the afterlife jean-luc, your dead" and " Flowers! is there a John -luck, Pickard here"

and all good things.. " That, is the exploration that awaits you...not mapping stars and studying nebulas, but charting the unknown possibilities of exisence"

I finally decided on All good things though, because i just love how it really gets you to think, even though it wasn't as hilarious as some of the others. :wow:

Forgive me for nitpicking but you only got the tapestry quote half right and it is one of those that loses something if you don't quote the whole line.

"Welcome to the afterlife Jean-Luc. You're dead. And I'm God." I laughed until I peed. Talk about Picards version of hell.

  2. Most Toys, is one of my favorites too. And to be honest it is one of the episodes that convinced me that Data has always had emotions. It's just that his natural emotions are those of an android and therefore different in strength, and expression from those of a human, or Klingon or Vulcan etc. Personally I think all Soong's chip did was help Data express the emotions in a way more familiar to the life forms around him.

  3. I am a huge NF fan. Also enjoying Star Gazer and Diane Carey's New Earth series. And of course the DS9 relaunch.

I liked the ShatnerTrek novels at first, but as time ground on and he started to write characters like Sulu and Picard as out of character, lickspittles and idiots I grew tired of the whole thing.

  4. I'm sure I don't speak for everyone but I would rather pay $100 for 6 discs filled with TNG than I would $60 for 3 whole seasons worth of Buffy. I'm not trying to knock Buffy I'm just pointing out that TNG season box sets can, will, and are selling for over $100 where as I don't know near as many people who would pay that much for Buffy. It's the sad turth of the industry comes down to this: If you'll pay it, they'll charge it. How many of you have ever paid $3.50 for a small coke at a movie before? Same thing.

While your point is valid is does not make the practice right. Personally the ridiculous pricing structure is the reason why I have not and in all likelihood will not be purchasing any of the Star Trek collections. I wonder how many fans feel the same way.

  5. While I agree with your statement to a point it still does not excuse the rather slip shod handling of the third season. After all it's not like Spocks Brain was a brilliant story that simply lacked funding for proper execution. Rather it was an idea that should have been shot down the moment it was brought up. The same for Spectre of the Gun. I'm sure there are other ones that could be named. Basically I think what happened is that quality control shut down and people who had no real knowledge of or interest in Star Trek and what it was about were let in to misdirect the creative process.

  6. Are there any more trekkers (or trekkies) who like Garak too?  None of my trek friends seem to care one way or the other about him and begining to wonder if I'm the only one.

I am a huge Garak fan. He and Martok and there evolution was a big part of what kept me into DS9. I was extremely delighted when Andy Robinson wrote Stitch In Time.

  7. Well Spock's Brain is definitely one of the most embarassing. But my personal least favorite is probably Spectre of the Gun. Mainly because after the Prime Directive was so well established, suddenly Kirk is ordered to make contact with the Melkotians despite the fact that they aren't interested? No reason was ever given, it still infuriates me to this day.

  8. This is the first that I have heard of this. My life mate usually catches such news tidbits, she's an avid CNN, MSN, USA Today junkie. Could you post a link to where you saw the report please? I am curious to know more details.

    Thank you.

  9. Metamorphosis is good but you must be prepared to make allowances for the fact that it was written during the early days of the show and some things hadn't been firmed up, so some things will seem out of character.

Other Data related books that I liked include, Perchance To Dream, and Spartacus.

  10. Notice how once he met Data he changed his mind? If only everyone in the world would give everyone else a chance before judging them (Maddox did, however, end up calling Data "he". And didn't Data, in Data's Day - which I've only seen once - say was sending a report to Maddox? or was that Haftel? Now I'm confused...)

You were correct the first time. Also of some interest to Data fans might be Immortal Coil, in which Commander Maddox makes an appearence.

  11. Star Fleet has a militaristic structure.  HOWEVER, it isn't military.  It's a combonation of varrious programs, all bundled up into one program - Starfleet.

You have soldiers, doctors, counselors, commanders, pilots, engineers, scientists, and so on.  You have warships, battleships, explorration ships, science ships, scout ships, and so on.

After seeing the U.S.S. Grissom, in STIII:TSFS...  well, do you REALLY think that Starfleet is completely military?

I say being a military is only a "function" of what Star Fleet does, and it's structure was adopted from the Navy.

I agree. The term that a friend of mine and I came up with was Unified Service, as refers to Starfleet. In other words the Federations military aspects are part of Starfleet, but Starfleet is not part of the military. We use this to explain the USS designation. We decided it stands for Unified Service Ship.

  12. Least Favorites by Series.

TOS: Chekov. I like Walter Koenig. But the character was completely unneccesary and added nothing to any episode he was in.

TNG and DS9: Keiko O'Brien. What a shrew. The actress playing her had no chemistry with Colm Meaney. Honest to god I was rooting for him to get it on with Kira during the whole pregnancy story line on DS9.

VOY: Not a huge Neelix fan. But as far as deleted for all time? The Kazon. Brilliant Klingon's with sunburns, and bad hair dos.

ENT: Honestly? Porthos could go and I wouldn't shed a tear.

  13. Lt. Charlie Xavier has a way with machinery. Not only is he good with his hands but he has this odd habit of talking to whatever piece of machinery he's working on. Even more odd the machinery in question has a habit of repsonding. The USS Hermes Trimegestus' chief engineer, Selena Kincaid asked Charlie to come aboard as her Shuttle Maintenance Chief. It seems like a perfect fit.

Of course no one seems to have noticed yet Charlies barely hidden temper, and his incredible fear of letting it loose. Or his deep seated hatred for one of Starfleets most legendary captains.

Is Charlie who he claims to be? Or is he the X factor that will end the Hermes mission before it can even get under way? Well I guess you're just going to have to read Star Trek: Restoration, Book One: Redemption to find out.

  14. The Prometheus class ships integrated holo-emitters gave the big brains at Starfleet R&D a bright idea. Why not create a holographic Security Chief to oversee ships security. It would be indestructible and would have a response time faster than any organic being could hope to match. A prototype was made named the Starfleet In Ship Security Hologram or SISSH for short. But before the revolutionary new idea could be put in place the rank and file of Starfleet got wind of it and raised such a stink that the project was scrapped. So what do you do with a lonely proto type of an unwanted device? Well you give it to the ship that's all about second chances.

Let's just hope that no one figures out that SISSH would rather be picking daisies than stopping hostile intruders. That and the strange over ride code that someone hardwired into his programming. The one that will cause him to destroy any life form from the Alpha or Beta Quardrants.

So how do you trust a chief of security who's not all there? Well in fact who's not really anywhere at all? I guess you'll have to read Star Trek: Restoration, Book One: Redemption to find out.

  15. Selena Kincaid grew up in a family that lived for one thing and one thing only. Tinkering with machinery. If it beeps, then she can probably fix it. And by fix she means upgrade it to the point of unrecognizability.

There's only two problems, she has a love of gambling almost as great as her love of machines, and a Nausicaan ex husband with a jealous streak as wide as he is tall, determined to win her back at any cost.

So it's a question of which will catch up to her first, a representative of the Orion Syndicate to discuss the three bars of gold pressed latinum she owes them plus interest. Or her ex who wouldn't take it well to learn of her attraction to a certain part human mostly machine science officer.

Sure she can tune an engine but can she keep her private life from having a warp core breach? I guess you're just going to have to read Star Trek: Restoration, Book One: Redemption

  16. Daniel Yoder was raised as part of the Terran sub-culture known as the Amish. He learned to live simply and to love his family, his community, and above all else to love and obey the word of the Lord. Then came his time to experience the world and he found something new to love. Space travel. With much soul searching and great reluctance he left the place where he'd spent over 20 years of his life and went to study at Star Fleet Medical. An avowed pascifist Daniel is also one of the best surgeons in the history of the fleet. Having asked God and Starfleet Command to put him where he will be of greatest use he's been assigned to the USS Hermes Trimegestus.

Now light years from Earth, Daniel is beginning to realize exactly how desperate and needy some of his fellow crew people are. When he left home to study medicine he promised his family he would continue to abide by the time honored precepts of his people. But that promise may turn out to be harder to keep than anyone realizes.

Will Daniel succumb to a galaxy of temptations? Well you'll just have to read Star Trek: Restoration, Book One: Redemption to find out.

  17. Ensign Franklin Mayweather came from a long line of 'Fleeties, (or 'Fleeters if you prefer), when he shipped out as a xenobotany expert he expected, a lot of catalogueing, scanning, checking and double checking. What he didn't expect was to get killed on his first away mission. And he certainly didn't expect to be ressurected by Section 31 using reverse engineered Borg components. Essentially making him Starfleet's first home made Borg. After months of intense counselling Frank has accepted his return to life barely. Angry and filled with hatred for Section 31, the only reason he's accepted assignment to the USS Hermes Trimegestus is because he hopes he'll be able to die again, this time for good.

What no one is counting on is that even Federation created Borg components may be susceptible to the control of the Borg. That and if push comes to shove Frank may have already decided where his lot lies, and it isn't with the people who made him the monster he is today.

Will Frank seek vengance on the ones who made him? Well you'll just have to read Star Trek: Restoration Book One: Redemption to find out.

  18. Some of my very favorites actually come from Star Trek V.

Bones: Jim, if you ask me, and you haven't, this is a bad idea. Were bound to run into the Klingons and they don't exactly like you.

Kirk: Excuse me. Excuse me. What does God need with a starship?

Bones: Jim, you don't go asking the almighty for his ID.

After blasting the crap out of Spock and Kirk

Entity to McCoy: Do you doubt me?

McCoy: I doubt any god who inflicts pain for his own amusement.

Then of course there's First Contact.

Geordi is gushing about the great Zephram Cochrane to the hung over, bewildered, terrified Zephram Cochrane causing the man to run away. Upon discovering what's going on Riker chastises Geordi with, "You told him about the statue?". Every time that scene comes up I just loose it.

  19. One of the apsects of the premise for Enterprise that I was troubled by was the temporal cold war. It seemed a bit tacked on. But then as I was reading The Eugenics Wars 2, I got to thinking about the fact that Gary Seven seems to come from in the future, and is working to safe guard Terra and it's people. In a way that could be seen as a bit of foreshadowing of the TCW I think. In fact it seems to me that it would be an excellent idea of they could get the actor who played Gary Seven to perhaps reprise the role.

  20. Robert MacDonald is a patriot at heart. When he was a young man he believed the right thing to do was to join the Starfleet. When he was contacted by an agent of the shadowy espionage group Section 31 Robert believed that joining them was the right thing to do. After years of doing everything in his power to quiet his conscience, Robert MacDonald can stand it no longer. Having discovered a laboratory filled with in humane experiments Robert MacDonald has taken a life times worth of dossiers on the top secret activities of section 31 and made his superiors a very simple offer. Either they let him out and he keeps quiet, or they don't and the whole ugly truth comes to life.

So here he is now, on a new ship, with a new life. Acting as ships counselor, helping beings with their lives and problems. Doing his best to make up for atrocities he commited while part of Section 31.

If only it were that simple. His deception is about to be uncovered by a member of the crew with good reason to hate Section 31 and all their members. This will lead to questions about how he got out of an orginization that is best known for no member ever leaving alive. But even more troublesome than that Robert MacDonald is going to have to face himself and confront the fact that while you can take the man out of the top secret agency you may not be able to take the top secret agent out of the man.

Will it all come tumbling down? Well I guess you're just going to have to read Star Trek: Restoration, Book One: Redemption to find out.
