  1. As previously said the fact that the series in Total had a plot - their struggle to get back home made it a cut above the other series. There were a wider range of storys, lots of variation.

But the main indicator in the quality of a trek series is re-watchablity.

I can watch Voyager episodes over and over, the more I watch TNG, the more I realise it is more of a kiddies show, they seemed to avoid adult( as iin grown up) themes a lot. Ds9 was great, but with the continuing story arc, you know whats going to happen later on and that lessens the tension a bit when you rewatch it.

I rate ENT season 2 as good as any other series.

I hear some that criticise Voyager for the 'alien of the week', but that is why I love it, there is so much variation, instead of the same ship and crew being confined to the goings on in the same sector.

  2. Well I could turn Signatures off completely.

Seriously and Objectively: I for one would prefer if you do this, this is a great site, but the volume of some members signatures gets annoying. Some signatures are over a half a screen long. Your using Invision arent you/ You could just decrease the word limit in signatures or diasble images.

I am a relative newbie, and therefore have no influence, so just consider my opinion as feedback from someone having first impressions.

I think controlling the signatures would improve this site.

However, I still dont understand the reasoning involved in adopting a policy to ban links to other boards - what is its purpose?

  3. Advertisement of other forums: The STARTREKFANS.NET Forum does not allow advertisements of other Star Trek discussion forums on the internet, either in messages, signature lines or avatars. We have no quarrel whatsoever with any other web forum communities; indeed, quite a number of them are ones we're members of and like very much. They're all great places and you're welcome to visit them. But the administration team of the STARTREKFANS.NET forum does not feel that it is fair to us, or the community here that our forum be used as a billboard for other web communities and cluttered with such content. If you wish to post such links then the 'Links' forum and the 'Home Page' section in personal files are the appropriate place to display these.

    WHAT THE HELL is this?!?!?!?

You going to tell me that if I invest time and effort in posting at this board, I cant even put a link to my site in my signature?

If this is just an attempt to limit the size of peoples signatures, just decrease the word limit? Other than that I do not see any purpose of this policy Please explain.

So if in a thread, say for example, about star ship design - I find an interesting article that appears on another message board, I cant put a link to it in my reply?? CRAZY

Yes, I know someones going to tell me that I can put links in the links forum *cough graveyard cough* where no one looks.

Someone please explain this to me , it makes no sense, sounds like commie talk.

I believe this policy will hurt your board, newbies arent going to bother if they cant put a small link to their site in their signatures - one of the reasons a minority of members bother posting here or any board.

  4. I was watching a little known aussie kids show today, called 'Hi-5', well the TV was on in the background while I was on the computer.

...anyway, they were having a space theme day, in one part one of the girls mentioned Starfleet, beaming-up and a replicator. I did a double take when she said starfleet. She had a mixing bowl as a helmet, raincoat as a space suit and a cardboard ship that looked a lot like a shuttle, she was calling 'starfleet' to say she was lost! - its everywhere.

  5. Ok say down the track, if the 8th or so series revived a past child star to head the series and be the Captain of whatever ship was involved, who would you like that to be?

Before you reply with ' but Jake didn't want to enter Starfleet' or ' wesley is in another plane of existence' it is Star Trek, anything is possible ( remember Wesley magically appeared in Nemesis ).

  6. After they got back the the alpha quad, i don't think Chakotay would have stayed in starfleet, Seven would have been a scientist or engineer - not on a starship

Tuvok, Harry or Paris would have been the only officers that would have wanted to keep serving on a ship.

And it was way past time Harry got a serious promotion.

  7. I have all eps on tape except 'Virtuoso'.

All of season 6 i taped offthe tv, so i will be buying that season.

Virtuoso is my second least fav ep so i refused to tape it when it was on tv.

My all time least fav ep was 'Gravity' , but I taped it as i was copying the rest, but havent watched it since. Lori Petti - the girl that killed a trek episode.

If any of my local stores rent out the DVD sets, I will copy the special features and not bother buying them. I have already given enough charity to paramout buying 20 or so of the VHS versions.

And you just know in 10 yrs or so when my VHS degrade you will be able to buy the whole series on a flash card or something for around $100.

  8. Here in Aus , we don't get season 1 until 6th May, season 2 not till july :assimilated::assimilated::dude:

I'm glad the voyager ones will be cheaper though

    Prices here, in aussie dollars:

    TNG - $189

    DS9 - $212 !?!?!?!?!

    VOY - $145

  9. OK, I've been here a week or two, all the stuff various members have in their signatures was amusing at first, very colourful and extensive, But now its just annoying - hard on the eyes and frustrating when searching through a post, some members have signatures half a screen long?! and a lot of spoilers that hide things not terribly relevant. :dude:

Has anyone ever tried to limit the amount that can be placed in a signature.

Don't get your knickers in a knot - simple feedback from a new member, it is an issue that may deter other newbies. :assimilated:

  10. I rate the Pilots, best to worst:

    Caretaker

    The Emissary

    The Cage

    Encounter at farpoint

    Broken Bow

I would have been content with Endgame had they put in another 60 seconds at the end - some short ceremony after the ship had landed on earth.

Shattered and Homestead felt like finales as well.
