  1. Cyrano Jones said that tribbles are the only love that money CAN buy.

Other than that, I think they came from a planet where they were heavily preyed upon. Thus, their prolific reproductive capabilities was their mechanism for survival. :wow:

  2. "Sir, there is a multi-legged creature crawling on your shoulder." (A Taste of Armageddon)

"It appears, Captain, we've been doing what used to be called pursuing a wild goose." (The Ultimate Computer)

  3. Excellent episode. Picard's suggestion that Data should have consulted him, and Data's response that other crewmembers do not consult him when they wish to procreate was classic. A very emotional ending, when Data announced that Lal was now a part of him.

Data does a great job of showing emotion without, well, showing emotion.

  4. I hope they come out with TOS season sets. It would save me a lot of money. I haven't bought any of the volumes, cause they're just too expensive.

You really need to watch more TOS, Jean-Luc. :wow:

  5. I voted mixed cast. They wouldn't have to include everybody, and we'd get to see some of our old favorites. The interaction would be interesting, taking characters who WE know, but who don't know each other and seeing how those relationships develop.

I also think there are any number of interesting story lines that could result from a mixed-cast movie.

  6. OH, You have to see TOS, you HAVE to see all of them. Doesn't matter if they're related to the current DS9 episode.

But, don't get distracted by the "antiquated" special effects. View them for the great stories, the interaction between characters and their messages, many of which are still relevant today.

Have you seen the TOS movies? Watching the series will definitely give you a good background for the movies, too.

Anyway, welcome and enjoy TOS. It's the BEST!!!

  7. I was also totally DS9-deprived until I got my Season 1 set. I have missed it desperately. I LOVE all the characters.

You didn't mention one of my favorite characters - Dr. Bashir. It was nice seeing him mellow from a gung-ho, fresh out of school medical officer to a competent, confident station doctor. He still remains one of my favorites from that show. I enjoy the interaction between him and Garak and also his infatuation with Jadzia and how she is just slightly amused at his attentions.

  8. I've had shoulder surgery. Are you having it done arthroscopically? That is less invasive, but I'm sure you know that.

The first couple of days are the worst, don't be brave and try to go without the pain pills. You will need them. You are at a distinct advantage over me, they have greatly improved the anesthetics they use during surgery since I had mine about 12 years ago, so you won't have as many side effects from that. I had a great deal of nausea just from the anesthetics used during surgery. I don't think shoulder surgery is any more painful than any other type of surgery. I've had several, and they're all about the same, pain-wise. The recovery time might be a little longer, you have to slowly get your mobility back, which meant physical therapy for me.

Yeah, going in at 12:30 for surgery is definitely difficult. I had mine at 8:30 AM, so the missing breakfast thing wasn't that difficult. And I don't smoke, so that wasn't an issue, but the not drinking thing is hard. I would suggest as soon as you get there, and they hook you up to the IV, tell them you are nervous and ask for DRUGS!!! After that, you won't care. Ok, I don't usually encourage drug use, but this situation can be VERY nerve-racking and that can raise blood-pressure etc. etc. Just this once, a little drug-use can be a good thing.

Also, be sure there is someone with you to take care of you. For the first couple of days, don't try to do anything on your own. You could get dizzy and fall and cause even more problems. Just take it easy, don't overdo, and it won't be long until you feel LOTS better. I have had no further problems with my shoulder since the surgery, and at times I was in a great deal of pain. I am definitely glad I had it done.

Hope everything goes well for you, I will be thinking about you and wishing you a speedy recovery!!!

  9. Welcome Ktrek!! I've been watching since 1966 too!! I think you're going to like it here. I haven't been here long but have enjoyed it very much. There are lots of good discussions here on just about any topic you can think of. Once again, welcome!
