One Realm, One Game

:assimilated: Why is it that there are so many Fleets? I understand that there are too many personalities working against each other would be that answer. With the amount of people out there who wish to be in charge of their own fleet, it seems that no one would be willing to give up their “Ranks” and join a consolidated, ubiquitous fleet. Such a fleet would have the value of being a true fleet. There may even be help from Paramount for such a fleet. One that was an official game standard to where everything would fit into canon, which may even open up ideas for future series and films. Such a fleet would have a real cost to operate. It would have to run like a non-profit or minimal profit business. It is understandable that Paramount would want some reimbursement for the use of their franchise name(s). Yet, the benefits to such a “Star Fleet” would be great. Real specifications to ships giving players real understanding to a ships design and purpose for those who are a part of a ship‘s crew. A web-master who would not ban players due to the difference of personal views and/or opinions of the operation of the fleet or of its hierarchy. Such a fleet would have real ranks that were of official canon, real ships with proper registries. There would be a real “break-down” of the fleet as to what ship was assigned to where with real missions. Granted, some of these missions would not be as glamorous as those that are currently played on the net, but they would be in the true spirit and values of the United Federation of Planets. Isn’t that why we play? Not because we like battles were people die every day: If you do, you are in the minority of the general population. While there are some fleets out there who do play in the spirit of the Federation, most do not. Star Fleet is not about war, it is about exploration, it is about the learning of each other to learn more of ourselves.

What other benefits may occur from a consolidated fleet? There would be a standard for playing the game consisting of rules with practical limitations. Also, there would be a process for promotions based upon a players performance, time in rank, and other criteria that may be considered pertinent to a player’s promotion. Ascribed tactics for situations that would reflect real situations in a three-dimensional playing field with applied Non-fictional and Fictional Sciences to help bring learning and believability to the game for all those who play it using science and Gene Roddenberry’s imposed limitations to his universe. Such uniform rules would help all players in all games in reaving the possibility of confusion of multiple, differing rules. Right now the Star Trek Universe is truly static. There are games being played, Enterprise is on the air, and the ever present conventions; however, there is no forward momentum in this arena that could be considered healthy.

I shall be frank in admitting that I am unaware as to what it would exactly take to join the twenty something fleets and several hundred fan originations to agree on this. I do believe that it would help bring about a renaissance to Star Trek, moving it out of the dark ages of a cult status and forward into the realm of making it reality. (With a few twists to the historical facts of the fictional by bringing it into the real world.)
