VaBeachGuy 12 Posted January 22, 2004 This is a song I heard during the holidays and intended to share here but never got around to it. I wanted to post it now with the lyrics printed and the music video attached as well because to me it is a moving song with a couple of powerful lines in it. If you want to have a little bit of understanding of what a soldier is this song will help. This song really won't mean a lot to anyone that is not an American but I think if you replace the word American with your nationality it would ring true for your soldiers as well. For anyone that listens to this or watches the video, the lines that are really powerful in my mind are these: And I will always do my duty no matter what the priceI've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice Oh, and I don't want to die for you but if dyin's asked of me I'll bear that cross with honor 'cause freedom don't come free This illustrates something I said on another thread about the military. Soldiers don't want to die, but do so so you won't have to. And I'm out here on the front linesSleep in peace tonight To me this is a very strong line. It conjures up nights of guard duty in the freezing cold rain and snow at 4am (after only sleeping for 2 hours before that). After guard duty is over (usually a 2 hour shift) it's 6am and time to start the day's work. Soldiers do that so we can all sleep in peace at night.
