VaBeachGuy 12 Posted November 21, 2003 It seems that the computer that the DC Sniper was using to map out his killings also had Hampton Roads mapped out as a target area. For those not aware of this area, I live in the Hampton Roads area. Hampton Roads is made up of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Hampton, Portsmouth, New Port News and Suffolk. We were his next target. Had they not gotten him when they did, who knows there might have never been a STARTREKFANS.NET. Makes ya think (made me think anyway). VaBeachGuy 12 Posted November 22, 2003 Here's the story from the local news: Hampton Roads could have been next site for sniper killings Click Here to Watch 06:22 PM EST on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 By Dottie Wikan, WVEC.COM (Virginia Beach) - Ashland, outside Richmond, was as close as the DC-area sniper killing spree came to Hampton Roads. Apparently, that was just by luck. In testimony Tuesday afternoon during the John Allen Muhammad sentencing, an FBI cyber crime expert testified about locations on the peninsula and in Norfolk that indicate Muhammad was looking to widen his killing zone. Associated Press This map of southside Hampton Roads was on Muhammad's laptop. A map found on the laptop recovered from Muhammad's caprice identified three potential targets in Hampton Roads. John Hair talked about a mark in Newport News off I-64 and Route 17 near Oyster Point, just south of Newport News-Williamsburg airport, that said, "Good Spot off 95." On the same map, in Hampton, near Armistead Avenue, not far from the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, are the words, "Possible hit, not many ways out" were written. That target had only I-64, I-664 or Route 17 as possible escape routes. Finally, a black dot near I-64 in Norfolk had the words, "Good eastern move, many ways out." Of course, the Muhammad and Malvo sniper trials were moved to Hampton Roads because it was determined that an impartial jury couldn't be found in Fairfax and Prince William Counties. Associated Press This map shows locations near the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel and in Newport News. In all, 13 people were killed and six wounded in the sniper shooting spree that prosecutors say was an attempt my Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo to extort $10 million from the government. Most of the killings occurred in October, 2002 in the Washington, DC area and Maryland. Other maps shown Tuesday indicate Muhammad had looked as far south as Durham and Raleigh, North Carolina and even went towards Annapolis, Maryland. Muhammad faces life in prison without parole or a death sentence after being convicted Monday on two counts of capital murder. One accused him of taking part in multiple murders, the other -- the result of a post-Sept. 11 terrorism law -- alleged the killings were designed to terrorize the population. His alleged accomplice, 18-year-old Lee Boyd Malvo, is on trial in Chesapeake. WATCH 13NEWS FOR LIVE TEAM COVERAGE OF THE SNIPER TRIALS BEGINNING AT 5:00 P.M. Here's a bigger view of the maps from the Sniper's computer. In this one I've placed a Red circle and arrow close to the location where I work and a green circle and arrow close to where I live, those are not on the actual sniper's maps: This is part of this area just north of Norfolk across the water. VaBeachGuy 12 Posted November 22, 2003 That was too incredibly close for comfort. I wish they had been stopped sooner but I'm relieved they were stopped before moving into your area VBG. PHEW! Yeah, the location with the red arrow (I added that) is where I work and the spot they marked is only about 3 or 4 miles from that.
