Vic 17 Posted October 29, 2012 Vulcan, Alberta, Canada is looking to rebrand itself in hopes of keeping the next generation from leaving the small prairie town. That rebranding will include building on Vulcan’s Star Trek theme. “[Vulcan is] stagnant, hate to say that, like every other small Prairie town, not moving ahead,” said Town Councillor Judy Sanderson. “[it] needs something to kick forward.” That something is technology, with the goal to make Vulcan “the most technologically-advanced rural town in Canada.” “Star Trek is what brings the people here — technology will hopefully be what brings people to stay,” said Leslie Warren of the Vulcan Business Development Society. Vulcan plans on revitalizing its tourist center and downtown, as well as building a state-of-the-art convention center. “We are appreciative to [the] Star Trek brand and what it’s done,” said Sandra Locken, a local business owner. “Move it forward, create industry and business keep our young people in town engaged.” View the full article
