Elliot Passes

Biff Elliot, best-known to Star Trek fans for his role in the original series’ The Devil in the Dark, died last week at the age of eighty-nine of natural causes.

 

Elliot played the miner Schmitter in the episode, who met a grisly end courtesy of the Horta.

 

The actor was best-known to the public in general for his role as detective Mike Hammer in 1953′s I, the Jury. He went on to appear in many classic war films from the 1950s and 1960s, including PT 109, Pork Chop Hill, Between Heaven and Hell and The Enemy Below and more.

 

Television appearances included show such as Star Trek, Perry Mason, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, 77 Sunset Strip, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Mission: Impossible.

 

In addition to acting, Elliot was also a radio sportscaster for CBS Radio, where he covered Los Angeles sports.

 

Elliot is survived by his wife Connie as well as by various nieces and nephews.
