Capt_Picard 0 Posted July 18, 2009 Walter Leland Cronkite, Jr. (November 4, 1916 - July 17, 2009) was a American broadcast journalist, best known as anchorman for the CBS Evening News for 19 years (1962–81). During the heyday of CBS News in the 1970s and 1980s, he was often cited in viewer opinion polls as "the most trusted man in America" because of his professional experience and kindly demeanor. Cronkite died on July 17, 2009 at the age of 92 after an extended battle with cerebrovascular disease. A great man who helped set what TV news should be... youbroughtheryouRiker 2 Posted July 18, 2009 How important was he? When he returned from Vietnam, he said, "I thought we were winning this war!" Someone in LBJ's administration said, "When we lost Walter Cronkite, we lost Vietnam." Rest In Peace, Walter
Kor37 9 Posted July 18, 2009 One of the last truly great newsmen that actually reported the news without infusing the broadcast with his own personal political views. He will be missed!

Yes, and Picard posted in the right forum Actually, this thread was moved from 'Off Topic' into 'Celebrity Deaths' by Alterego. As for where I posted it... I, as the owner of the site determined that the death of Walter Cronkite warranted a front page (portal) posting.
