Romulan Question

Click for Spoiler:
The Romulan Planet was destroyed in the future correct? So the Romulan Planet would of been in Existence through most of this movie.

Nero was in this timeline from the time James was born until he made captain.

So did the future Romulans make contact with the past Romulans and how would that impact the new storyline?

As I understand it, it generally breaks down this way: Nero and Original Spock, etc. end up going through the singularity, after Romulus is destroyed by the nova, and end up in 2233...in the past-but in what is a new timeline-or as the writers see it, a seperate if in many ways identical quantum reality-our timeline intact as in TOS-to Nemesis-beyond.There, Romulus is decades away from disaster... and someone has ample time to save its people, or prevent the supernova. Nero in addition to a mission of revenge for actions not taken in his past future life by Vulcan and the UFP, would see Romulus remade as a power greater even in this than in the original reality. His intentions would further alter the new reality. As for contact with his people there in the newreality's past...there's nothing said that tells one way, or the other....

I haven't read the comics yet, but I believe Nero was captured and held on Rura Penthe for a few decades until he escaped and destroyed those 47 Klingon cruisers mentioned in the movie itself. Also, remember that over those 25 years he did not have the red matter, which he obtained very very shortly before going straight to Vulcan to destroy it so that Spock could share the same pain he'd felt.

At this point, as Spock mentions, we've still got 129 years until the Romulan sun goes supernova, so Nero has a hell of a lot of time to get over there and assist his race. Also, remember that it wasn't just his planet and people he was avenging...it was his wife. Regardless of the fact that his planet was once again intact, he would never again be able to see his wife or child (his wife was more than likely decades and decades away from being born, and his child would NEVER be born in this timeline.)
