Reagan

Recommended Posts

I know VBG is a fan of Reagan (as am I).

I’m recommending a book for everyone to buy. I recently bought it and right now I’m just skimming over it before I read page by page. Nowadays the media has labeled Reagan as a person, who was more about look then substance, but when you read a book like this or just look at the real facts then you have to conclude that he was a true leader (and a great person).

The book "How Ronald Reagan Changed My Life" by Peter Robinson

Again, if you love him (or don’t love him) buy this book and please read it. I recommend this book for everyone. Great Book! I really mean it

I was looking through a fact sheet about Reagan (I’m not referring to this book) and did you know that Reagan when he was a lifeguard rescued 77 people from drowning? I thought that was an interesting fact which I never knew.

Peewee,

Not funny.

Master Q,

I agree about Reagan being a true leader. For me, he is the standard for which all presidents (and world leaders) are judged.

Another good book is "Victory: The Reagan Administration's Secret Strategy That Hastened the Collapse of the Soviet Union" by Peter Schweizer

I have read this book about 5 times and it details how President Reagan moved away from the "Truman doctrine" of appeasement with the Soviet Union because he felt that that was the reason the cold war had dragged on for 40 years. It details the National Security Directives that set in motion a secret economic war against the Soviet Union as well as a psychological war against them. He directed the Air Force to play a bit of a game of "Chicken" (for lack of a better term) with the Soviets, what they would to is scramble all of our (The U.S.) Nuclear bombers and have them head for the Soviet Union. They would go in all directions, from Europe, from Asia and across the North Pole so it looked like we (The U.S.) had just totally flipped out and now it (humanity) was just "all over but the shoutin". This was done on purpose to make them (The Soviets believe that this Adminstration was determined to win the Cold War).

There was also that time that President Reagan made a "mistake" on live radio. For those that were around back then you may remember the big news story surrounding this.

This was all done with the plan to make the Soviet Union afraid of the United States and make them want to come to the arms control tables and make Real efforts to reduce Nuclear weapons.

While al this was happening there were efforts to ensure that the Soviets oil pipeline would not pump oil, if the Russian oil were to make it to the market it would bring hundreds of billions of dollars into the Soviet coffers and the Reagan Adminstration's plan was to bankrupt the Soviets.

After you read this book and you look back at history you will see that it was no accident that the Soviet Union collapsed less then a year after President Reagan left office. In fact after reading this book you will see that his strategy for dealing with the Soviets was brilliant. He came into office and said 'Why are we fighting to continue the Cold War? Why don't we just win this thing and be done with it?'

Awesome...I was a bit too young to remeber Reagan...

all I know is my folks hate him and Republicans in general....

I am conservative and vote conservative (though not necessarily for the Republicans all the time)....not that I'll tell my folks! ^_^

I think I'll read Victory,I love that sort of Cold War non-fiction... ^_^
