Harper College resumes classes after threat

Recommended Posts

This is at the school I work at....

PALATINE -- For the second time in two weeks, buildings on the campus of Harper College in northwest suburban Palatine were evacuated after a bomb threat was sent via email, but classes were back in session Wednesday evening.

At about 4 p.m. Wednesday, a bomb threat was reported on the campus involving the Avante Center (Buildings X, Y and Z), according to an alert posted on the school's Web site.

As a result of the threat, the three buildings were evacuated while an investigation was conducted.

Harper College spokesman Phil Burdick said the threat was sent via email, but could not specify what was said in the email.

Students were back in class at 6:30 p.m. and things at the school had returned to "business as usual" Wednesday night, Burdick said.

The college will be open Thursday, as well, he said.

The school originally told students and staff to avoid the area. The Avante Center was thoroughly investigated and had reopened at 6:30 p.m. after it was determined to be safe for occupancy, according to the alert.

Burdick said officials continue to investigate who sent the threatening email, and no one was in custody as of 7 p.m.

On April 28, about 800 students in eight buildings at Harper were evacuated after an anonymous bomb threat was phoned in. No bomb was found.

But truthfully it happened at 4:10 pm just as I was leaving... <_<
