Oakland County judge makes feuding neighbors walk it off

TROY, Mich. (AP) - Judge Michael Martone has ordered feuding Oakland County residents to three-day jail terms.

 

But when the Clawson neighbors finish cooling their heels, they'll also stretch their legs.

 

The Detroit Free Press reports the Troy district judge sentenced 41-year-old Michael Lehnert and 51-year-old Jeffrey Schachinger Wednesday to 250 hours of community service. They must walk across the street from each other with sandwich-board signs that read, "Love thy neighbor."

 

Lehnert pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace. Schachinger did the same for a nuisance ordinance. Each violated probation for earlier misdeeds.

 

Martone, who recently had a teen carry a "Don't litter" sign, says it was time to "try some embarrassment" on the neighbors when counseling failed.
