Enterprise Uniform

Recommended Posts

I was looking at my Enterprise Cast photos and I saw something I hadn't noticed before. Doesn't Hoshi have the wrong color stripe on her uniform? Shouldn't the Communications Officer wear Red just like Uhura did? I associated those stripes with the TOS color scheme..Am I in error? Everyone else's stripe seems to match their TOS counterpart color..

I've noticed this, too. I was meaning to ask it but always forgot!

I recall Uhura wearing gold in an episode or two, but never blue.

Perhaps since Hoshi is more of a linguist she wears the blue? I don't know.

I too have never noticed but if that is a valid observation, I dont mind.

That could be a very good answer, works for me.

I never noticed either, is the blue constant with her or just in the pic? I'll have to look.

My first thought was that it's because she isn't a "Comm officer", she's an interpreter which could be considered a science and would justify the blue stripe.

Is Hoshi even a Starfleet officer?I thought she was some sort of linguistic specialist they "drafted" into coming along on the mission, somewhat against her will?I dunno.I never watched more than a few minutes of Broken Bow.....Okay,I have to admit something.Lately,my nephew breencommander has convinced me to sit down and watch a few episodes of Ent he had taped....I kind of liked the shows. I know,I'm shocked.Maybe I'll give Enterprise a chance to make me a believer during the 3rd season.... :spock:

It doesn't surprise me at all. I am a die hard DS9er but I think Enterprise has had a stronger first 2 years then any of the modern Treks.

Hoshi is in Starfleet, she mentions to Archer when he tries to get her to come on the first mission. She was on leave and in order for her to be "forced" back she would have to be recalled and that would mean a reprimand which would mean she couldn't serve on a ship and she wouldn't be able to go on the mission. In the end, the Klingon language was too interesting for her to pass up and of course she goes willingly.

In the episode Aquiel of TNG Communications officers wore blue. Perhaps they switched to red in the TOS era and back to blue in the TNG/DS9/VGR era. Paramount also probably chose to give the crew more variety since the only members of the principal cast who would wear blue don't wear Starfleet uniforms.

Well good for him and you. My dad loathed ENT for all the same reasons I'm sure you did but I have been keeping after him showing him the logic of the situation (and the best episodes, his favorite is Judgement) and he too is now looking forward to season three while expressing remorse at being a critic from the start.

I noticed the blue stripe on Hoshi's uniform back in the first season. I figured since she is a linguist (one who studies languages), her speciality would fall in the sciences catagory, and that's why she wears the blue stripe.

I agree so much. ENT has had a phenomenal two seasons, no matter what a couple of antiquated, out-of-touch, illogical, clumsy, vague and downright inaccurate 'statistics' say. Oh, and the afore-mentioned discriptions fit most of the critics of ENT too.

Ent has had some truely dynamic, mind-blowing episodes (I can't name an episode that I haven't liked), it has complex, vibrant charaers and what looks to be an almost revolutionary story arc.

I also always thought of Hoshi as a Science officer primarily and a comm officer secondly, so I never had a problem with the stripe.
