Pittsburgh-area homeowners offer cash back to buyer when they die

WEXFORD, Pa. (AP) - It could be the deal of a lifetime.

A Pittsburgh-area couple, Bob and Ricki Husick, is offering anyone who buys their home a full refund when the couple dies.

The Husicks have been trying to sell their suburban home for almost a year, but have failed to do so in the current shaky market.

Some area homeowners have lowered prices, offered free trips and tried a variety of other gimmicks, but the Husicks' idea is among the most original.

The Husicks have no heirs and built the house in 1993. They want $399,900 for the four-bedroom, 3 1/2-bath home, which is located about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Under the Husicks' offer, the buyer would get the sale price back when the couple dies.

But wait, there's more: If the buyer agrees to care for the couple in old age, he could also inherit their retirement home in Arizona.

"Why not go for the works? So if we're worth $2.5 million, you get it all," said Husick, 55.

Husick said the couple would even allow the buyer to write up the couple's will.

"We don't want you to think we're trying to trick you," he said. "You draw it up and we'll sign it."

John Cook, a Pittsburgh-area real estate attorney, called the offer unbelievable. He said to protect the deal, a buyer would be wise to stipulate in the will that the Husicks could not give up large portions of their estate or place it in joint ownership with anyone but the buyer.

Husick said the couple would be willing to sell the house the usual way.

The deal-killer is that if you read the fine print, you would be obligated under the terms of the deal to become a Steeler fan. Thats why I'm not jumping at it........ <_<
