Developer Holds VT Game Ransom

Recommended Posts

DEVELOPER HOLDS VT GAME RANSOM To video game makers, publicity and hype are often more important than the quality of the games themselves (Does anyone remember 'Enter the Matrix'?). So to get himself some attention, as well as some profit, independent Australian game developer Ryan Lambourn created 'V-Tech Rampage,' a low-budget Web game based on April's Virginia Tech shootings.

To make the matter even more egregious, Lambourn -- who also goes by PIGPEN -- wants people to pay him to take the game down. Lambourn announced that for $1,000, he would remove the title from online gaming site, Newgrounds, where it's currently hosted. For $2,000, he'll also remove it from his personal Web site. Finally, for $3,000, he'll go so far as to apologize for creating the game in the first place.

Due the high volume of angry e-mails and complaints pouring in, the company hosting Lambourn's personal site has suspended his account until he takes the game down. Newgrounds, however, hasn't removed it and is even hosting similar copycat games. Says Lambourn: "At least Newgrounds still believes in freedom of speech."

It must have slipped his mind that in Australia, no such constitutional provision exists.

This guy is pretty despicable...... :P
