They should have listened to Picard when he said to "get that boy off of my bridge!"

But if they didn't have Wesley, who would have saved the ship numerous times? (Granted at least one time, with the nanites I believe, it was Wesley's fault the ship was in danger!)

 

Although his character was annoying, I think that the fans that publicly talked about "killing" Wesley were overly obnoxious and indifferent to the feelings of a teenager portraying that role. It was the writers who created Wesley's characteristics and actions, so be mad at them, not the actor.
