Latest "real" tricorder (22 lb.), from Purdue U.

Purdue University's prototype handheld (22 lb.) "tricorder" is a mass spectrometer that does ultrafast chemical analysis, using desorption electrospray ionization. Two startup companies are working on commercializing versions of it.

I read about this in an issue of Scientific American...I'd love to get my hands on one of these and see what was growing in my dad's fridge... :P
