Veteran Character Actor Byron Morrow Dead

Recommended Posts

A character actor who twice played an admiral appearing on a monitor to give Kirk orders in the Original Series has passed away. Byron Morrow was in "Amok Time" as "Admiral Komack," who insisted that Kirk not divert the Enterprise to Vulcan. He also appeared in "For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky" as an admiral who relieved Kirk of responsibility for the asteroid ship Yonada — and while that could also have been Komack (no name was used in dialog, but he wore the same uniform and had virtually the same backdrop), the closing credits identified him as "Admiral Westervliet."

According to The Los Angeles Times, Morrow died on May 11 at age 94 at the Motion Picture and Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif. His family only announced his death last week.

Morrow was a veteran character actor in television and films whose distinguished look often led him to be cast as a top military officer (such as a Starfleet admiral), a police chief or a judge. Besides Star Trek, he appeared in The Twilight Zone, The Untouchables, Wagon Train, The Fugitive, I Spy, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Get Smart, The Invaders, Lost in Space, The Wild Wild West, Night Gallery, Mission: Impossible, Search, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, The Bionic Woman and a plethora of other TV shows over four decades. He was also in nearly two dozen movies, including "Johnny Got His Gun" and "Colossus: The Forbin Project."
