Fats Domino missing in New Orleans

I just heard a radio report on K-LOVE (Online) that legendary rock and roll performer Fats Domino and his family are missing.

 

The singer and his family refused evacuation orders and told authorities that they were going to ride out the storm (hurricane Katrina).

 

The singers home is now under water.

I hate to say it about someone, but who cares, there are thousands of People Missing, so this makes one more, he is a celebrity so he gets attention, this disaster if more about the common folk who cant rebuild, once again our country is celebrity obsessed to the pint it sickens me

Well, he is not LESS important than anyone else either. He matters because he is a human being. People talk about him because they know who he is, and it gives them a personal connection.

 

I know faculty members who teach at Southern University at New Orleans, and others who teach at Xavier University in New Orleans (in fact expected to see one of them in a meeting in a couple of months). I have attended three conferences in New Orleans over the past ten years. That gives me a connection....I am worried about those people. One of my best friends lives in a different part of Louisiana, and I just heard from her today. These are special points of contact.

 

But I also care about the suffering masses. We discussed with our students today in a freshmen math course what we should do to help.

 

I think discussing Fats Domino is another way that some people connect with the disaster, another way to care. I do not think it overshadows the awarenes of the needs of the masses.

My aunt (my father's sister) and uncle live in Iberia Parrish,in a little ramshackle house out in the boonies.I used to visit them when I was a kid.They're in their 80s now,and I can't contact any of my relatives in Loreauville or Jeanerette to see if they are allright.

I keep checking the Daily Iberian newspaper online,and it looks like Iberia Parrish made out okay.I hope so.

I love those two crazy old folks.
