LordOfTheBorg 1 Posted August 6, 2005 ok, this is a bad idea probably, but... what if, to get rid of cancer, we use nanotechnology that searches out the infected cancer cells and destroys them. I know, we don't have nanotechnology yet, but still... wouldn't that work for curing cancer?
sea trooper 0 Posted August 6, 2005 The nanoprobes will eventually learn enough to think for themselves and instead multiply and take over entire human bodies turning them into half-human half-machine cyborgs!
LordOfTheBorg 1 Posted August 6, 2005 Probably, but... not if we didn't give them even the basic functions... all would be controlled by people... or, set a small, minusclue charge in each one so that when and if they tried to take over, they could be destructed. Krissy Phaserman 0 Posted August 6, 2005 the self destruct idea would cause harm to the person, also. one of them destroying itself won't do much. But, a couple hundred would. It would probably be something akin to a bullet going through. THe Nanoprobes may, however, be able to fight off the cancer...can they keep it from coming back, though, is a real question. But if they destruct, would they stay in a human's body? That could probably be harmful if there is mass quantity. the self destruct idea would cause harm to the person, also. one of them destroying itself won't do much. But, a couple hundred would. If the cancer is to be completely eraticated then the probes would have to be extremely small, smaller then any technology today could produce, and small enough to go through every cell. LordOfTheBorg 1 Posted August 6, 2005 Well, i think in the future we will have nanites that are as small as an atom...
Wishfire 2 Posted August 7, 2005 I think the idea would work quite well, for just about every disease. To make it fool-proof, make it so that the nanites require constant input from a central computer. When the patient is far enough away from the computer, the nanites are inoperative.
