Answer: Initially he was arrested for thieving and purse cutting. But afterwards they wanted to put him on trial for witchcraft when it was made known that strange unseen voices were speaking to him.. (Spock and McCoy)

 

Bonus Answer: They will die. The atavachron changes them when they go thru the time portals. Luckily Spock, McCoy and Kirk weren’t changed like that..
