VaBeachGuy 12 Posted June 3, 2003 In looking back at the original groups of astronauts I try to pick out who I would consider my "favorite". It's hard to do at times but one that I admire a lot is John Young. John Young flew on Gemini 3, the first mission Gemini mission with Gus Grissom in 1965. Gemini 10 in 1966 with Michael Collins. Apollo 10 which was the second mission to the moon (they didn't land of course) with Tom Stafford and Gene Cernan. He flew as commander of Apollo 16 which did land on the moon in 1972 with Ken Mattingly and Charlie Duke. He was commander of the very first Shuttle mission, STS-1 in 1981 and he commanded a second Shullte mission STS-9 in 1983.
