The World Cup of Hockey 2004

Recommended Posts

With the possibility of an NHL lockout looming (nice work there Bettman), and the fact that the WHA has absolutely no chance of getting off the ground, the World Cup of Hockey 2004 could be the last chance to see hockey for a while (probably December and the World junior tournament).

Anyway, the tournament is no officially underway with a few games already having been played. I'll try to post an update on the tournament everyday, but feel free to talk about the tournament in this topic.

I don't know how well I can handle these updates because I'm involved in orientation week at my university. I will say that Finland, the Czech Republic and the United States have all advanced to the semi finals with Germany, Sweden adnd Russia being eliminated. Canada takes on Slovakia tomorrow at 7pm et at the ACC in Toronto.

:dude::blush:CANADA WINS THE WORLD CUP!!!!!

Canada defeated Finland 3-2 tonight at the ACC to capture its fifth world cup title and complete the trifecta (Olympic gold, world championship, world cup).

I didn't see most of the game but I am still happy.:dude:

On a less enthusiastic note, the NHl lockout is set to begin at midnight. No NHL Hockey until at least January 2005. I know hockey will survive in Canada but a lot of American teams will disappear (probably for the better). Nice work, Gary Bettman and Bob Goodenow. Your inflexibilty and unwillingness to at least talk will likely cause you to be remembered as the two idiots who destroyed the NHL.

MY wife is a big Hockey fan she is heartbroken about the NHL. They are all idiots. They are going to ruin Hockey Just like the strike did baseball. Baseball isn't even asl close to being as popular as it once was. Now (American) football is America's sport I would say.

Baseball isnt as popular as it once was?

Thats an understatement if I ever heard one. Baseball has had higher ratings and put more people in the stands that ever before since about 1998.
