  1. I thought that it was some sort of Borg remote pad. I mean, they do have control panels, as seen on the table that they have Data is on. Why not hand-held ones?

Well, I don't know about that it sure looks like a tricorder to me.

  2. Star Trek First Contact

"In the scene where Picard opens a viewing port and shows Lilly that she is in a starship orbiting Earth he shows her New Guinea and Australia. New Zealand is missing"

NZ there, it's just coulded over.

If it's nit picking you wan't than answer me this,

    Why would a Borg need a tricorder(sp).

In Star Trek: First Contact, the scene just after the deflector dish has been detached the borg queen is standing over Data and she says "we've had a change of plans, Data" or something and in the backround their is a borg using a tricorder.

  3. Wow, I'm really Un-popular. I'm not on any of those lists.

I found this site one day when I was bored so much that I just typed any old garbage into the search engine, came across a sci-fi board <I can't remember the name>, stumbled across a post made by some guy that had a link to this site and that was it.

    No regrets :sly:

  4. Genetic modifying viruses eh, reminds me of the “Forced Evolutionary Virus” on “Fallout” :)

    Ok back to the point,

Speaking of weeds, it seems that most of the GM crop plants out there have only been developed solely because they made good business sense rather than anything else. An example of this is the chemical company “Monsanto” that produces the glyphosate based herbicide known as “Roundup”.

Monsanto also is a major leader when it comes to GM,

and what GM plants do you think they produce there? Why plants that are immune to the Roundup of course.

The farmer buys the GM seed from Monsanto and then the farmer goes and buys the herbicide also from Monsanto, bloody brilliant business strategy if you ask me.

Plants are not like Star Trek characters. They don't mate, can't mate, outside of their species. If it took an act of man to give the weed the sterility gene then it would also take an act of man to pass it to the food supply.

True, but that doesn't stop inter-breeding between a GM plant and a non-GM plant so long as they are of the same species.

  5. The point of this poll is to see what peoples opinions are on genetically modified crops. Since most of these crops are consumed (including cotton via cottonseed oil) I thought it might be interesting to see peoples reponses on it.

I have split the poll between US and non-US residents for the reason that the US is somewhat of an oddity in that it has readily adopted GM crops whilst there is stiff opposition everywhere else, especially in Europe.

For more info on GM crops here is a website:

    http://www.isaaa.org/

    It's kinda pro GM thou.

  6. I don't know about the US but here in Australia national companies based in states that don't use daylight savings always lose money during the summer. It's because there put "Out of Sync" with the rest of the country.

I vote that we remove daylight saving for good.

  7. That is a difficult question. The Germans are usually non-patriotic people. We have our national anthem and our flag but that is almost all.

The only day you can see German people on the streets carrying German flags and celebrating  is when Germany wins an important soccer game  :naughty:

That's pretty much like NZ is to except Rugby Union instead of Soccer.

I do believe that most kiwi's take pride in their unique heritage, history and the achievements of a small number of high profile New Zealander's (eg. Edmund Hillary, Ernest Rutherford) though.

  8. My pin, the one in Norway, is a little bit off. I tried to correct it, but it won't place on my city, not even on my county!

My pin should be right next to the fjord.

The cursor seems out a bit, when you click on a location the pin is placed a bit above & to the left of the location. You just have to fiddle with it to you get it right.

Anyway, it's a nice addition to the site. Will it be possible to update it incase someone moves?.

  9. I must say after being away for the past few months I was expecting more topics on the Olympic's, al' well.

Greatest olympic moment for me would have to be when NZ picked up the gold & silver medals in the men's triathlonYE. Bit of national bias there I know but, eh.

What's your "Greatest Olympic Moment" from Athens.
