  1. Nah I think probably most people don't find them expensive at all but I'm also sure that there are people who have a rough time with an extra $10 or so a week. For all the people we know of there are those we don’t know of. There are people out there who are trying to make an honest living and who aren’t trying to take advantage of these programs and who still have a difficult time swinging what we think of as "not that expensive."

of course...but usualy those aren't the people who are making a fuss about it

  2. But if Starfleet found a way to take out one of the 5 cubes then they could use the same method to take out the other 4 - so long as they did it quick enough to prevent Borg adaptation.

Also, remember that Guinan predicted there might be a time in the future when we could cooperate with the Borg. It just happened in a way we didn't predict.

well that's the question then isn't it....what does it take to take out just one borg cube? From what we've seen, it takes either technology from the future, the collected fire power of every ship in starfleet, someone who can hear the hive mind and pinpoint their weak spot, or a borg cube that was weakened to begin with

are any of those things something that could be repeated on 4 more cubes? maybe one or two more I think but that's it

  3. ok, so they tested the water in Best of Both Worlds and sent one cube and it took everything the federation had and they got their butts severely kicked. The federation lost how many ships and people? and the borg only lost one cube. So they know now that one cube is tough for them....so send five, that's it, no more federation.

of course they probably just didn't consider the federation a big threat or that they had any technology the borg wanted....until Admiral Janeway kicked their butts

  4. The Borg HAD to be 'beatable', certainly from a writer's perspective on the series. Natually. Assimilate one teeny ship(though with a FINE captain and crew!); no problem. I am far from a Borg expert, but I seem to recall the Queen remarking something to Janeway, to the effect that they could have assimilated Voyager at any time, but, magnanimously(my word) they elected to allow them to go on their way. And by beatable, as above, I mean able to eek by in this or that engagement. Of course, crippling that Unicomplex in the finale' was by no means a small victory-but, is this the END for them....I wouldn't be so foolish as to say 'yes'....

well the borg could have assimilated everyone in the alpha quadrant if they realy wanted to. all they had to do was send a dozen ships at once. A small number for them but it would be devastating to the federation

  5. The Borg appeared a total of 12 times on VOY in terms of having a full episode.

    Unity

    Scorpion, Part I

    Scorpion, Part II

    The Gift

    Drone

    Dark Frontier, Part I

    Dark Frontier, Part I

    Collective

    Unimatrix Zero, Part I

    Unimatrix Zero, Part II

    Endgame, Part I

    Endgame, Part II

That's a total of 12 episodes out of 172 episodes from the series. With that said, you can't say the Borg were over used. Any other episode contained flashback scenes, hallucinations, Borg debris, things of that nature.

As for the Borg being made weak, I don't believe this is so. Each situation was very unique, not just a "Voyager kicks Borg butt" episode.

    Anywho, what are your thoughts?

I agree, the borg were only in 7% of the show (12 episodes out of 172) that's hardly overused. The Klingons, cardassians, and romulans were far more over used than that

and Voyager never actualy went up against a full size, full strength borg ship and won. The only time they wree able to do anything to a borg ship was when they went up against a small ship or an already weakened and damaged ship or they had assimilated crewmembers inside

  6. If one feels that Jennifer Lien had some sort of deficit in talent-then I disagree. And I cite no less than Kate Mulgrew, who in recorded interviews said, and I quote, ''She's one hell of an actress'' Ethan Phillips, who, like the wonderful Kate Mulgrew, spoke of her''immediacy''; these were peolpe with no investment in telling anything but the truth re Jen as they saw it. Regardless of the circumstances of her departure, and I sometimes wonder, ''what if'', she to me WAS Kes in her portrayal. Period.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH :o At least you are able to see to the heart of the matter here.

I want to thank you. Even though we disagree on this issue, thank you for respecting my opinion enough not to insult me for it. We don't have to agree, but we can still be civil :giggle:

  7. Just not your thing huh? I feel that way about the Underworld movies. I could watch em but I'd rather be doing something els.

omg, I love the underworld movies!

I think part of the problem is I really dislike Kate Beckinsale.

realy????? OMG, I have the biggest girl crush on her!!!!

  8. I believe the ramifications you spoke of are potentially a very good story idea; imagine 'cleansed' Vidiians going out in peaceful purpose, attempting to make friends-only to have to owe up to their actions with so many species. It would be a tough road...and very dangerous. But I can see them trying, nonetheless, at some point, and in whatever degree....

that could be interesting...maybe for a book

  9. I can see Janeway being made an Admiral and welcoming the promotion. She was ambitious. Being behind a desk during Nemesis doesn't necessarily mean that she would remain there. During the course of Trek, we've seen Admirals assigned to many different areas of the Alpha Quadrant with differing areas of responsibility. She still had a lot of options. I can understand her wanting to stay close to home for a little while in order to get her life together.

I also think it's unfair to say she didn't deserve to be an admiral because others, like Picard, had more experience especially considering we know Picard turned down promotions to Admiral at various times.

well said, I completely agree. Janeway was more than deserving of a promotio. She made more first contacts since kirk (possibly more) destroyed the Borg, saved the federation from 8472, got her ship home from across the galaxy in only seven years.....she definately deserved it

that's cool, I still disagree :giggle:

and that just shows that Mulgrew and the others have class and didn't trash their fellow actor :o

  11. I personally liked every aspect of the Kes character. I've said it before and will say it again... the writers really dropped the ball by failing to fully develop her character.

I honestly don't think it was the writers' fault. I think they gave the character plenty of chances to be interesting. Cold Fire, Warlord, The Gift, Darkling, Persistance of Vision. But IMO, it was the actress that failed to deliver.

I think it would have been realy interesting to have kept the character (perhaps with a different actress) and continue to develop her more. It would be interesting to see a species go through it's whole lifespan, that's something we've never seen on Trek before. We've always seen species that live a lot longer than humans and I thought it was a great change of pace to see one that didn't. Plus her powers were cool! I mean, come on, she could boil someone's blood for crying out loud, and start fires with her mind! That has to come in handy sometimes LOL

I disagree. Although Jennifer Lien had some good moments in those eps, there really was no development on the writers part for her character as evidenced by her sudden "breakup" with Neelix right after the events of the aforementioned "Warlord". An actor/actress can only do so much with the character and that is largely contingent on the creativity of the writing staff. Unfortunately, the writers were running out of ideas and decided to write Kes off. It was one of the biggest mistakes they did. After all, it was Garrett Wang who was supposed to be written off,but as soon as he made the "50 most beautiful list" of People magazine, it was ascertained that he may help the shows ratings. Therefore Kes was axed. I personally don't think re-casting the character would've done good either. The writing staff needed to be replaced imo. At least the catsuit laden Seven of Nine helped Paramount avoid having to do that :giggle: . Imo, the Kes character offered so many dimensions that the writers just didn't hit on.

then we're going to have to disagree. I think the writers gave the character plenty of oportunity to grow, but the actress couldn't deliver

I think the writers on the show were amazing and did a great job with the show making it the best star trek series
