  1. Whilst browsing around other messageboards, I came across this, a news article about a place called Tranquility Bay, a centre for disruptive teens. Supposedly the centre teaches them how to become well-adjusted human beings, but see for yourself:

Part two of the article is here: http://observer.guardian.co.uk/magazine/st...,987168,00.html

I made my own little webpage about it, and have gathered some stories from attendees of this camp, that I plan to make available as soon as I have all the data sorted out.

I urge everyone who reads this to make the truth about Tranquility Bay known as widely as possible. Once my examples are up, feel free to distribute them, either post them on other message boards, or on your own sites. Print off the details and make teachers and local newspapers away of the place. Make your local political representative aware of it too.

  2. BOTF was an ok game, but a few things bothered me about it.

For a start, it seemed that for the slightest of excuses, your rivals would turn beligerant, yet would rarely go as far as to declare war. Second, the fleet sizes are pitiful. The shows give hints at fleets numbering in the thousands, yet you're lucky to have 50+ in BOTF. Thirdly, it takes forever to get anywhere, in terms of research, colonial development, and diplomatic efforts with smaller races.

If you could redesign BOTF, how would you do it?

  3. Stardate:213512.2

No I dont.I have the regular version. Will they be compatible??

Fraid not, modded Armada and unmodded Armada have a way of... exploding B)

I can't find the link for the mod at the mo, though I can always email it- only trouble is, it's over 30mb

  4. The movie did not do well because it had to compete with Two Towers. Its a shame but true. If they had the movie open in November, maybe things would have been different.

Trouble with a November release is that then Nemesis would have been up against Harry Potter and James Bond, both of which are big-hitters.

I actually find myself daring to disagree with Patrick Stewart! I didn't find the script to be that great at all, and the plot, whilst good, wasn't played right. Shinzon wasn't aggressive enough, and I would have liked to see the Scimitar reach earth- at least then I'd get a sense of greater danger.

    And dammit, better character work!!!!

  5. I'd like to see some new writers for Enteprise. Seems every episode I watch is written by Berman and Braga. Would be nice if Paramount would accept fan submissions again!

If Enterprise is to succeed, then as Picard said, it needs a change of direction. T'Pol's attractive, but we don't need it shoved in our faces- subtlity people! The issues that the show wants to tackle need to be woven more delicately into the stories too. Sometimes it can feel a bit... preachy.

Basically, I'll say again what I've said before. I think Paramount are trying very hard with ENT to create a show that appeals to both fans and non-fans, and as such, are losing both sets of their target audience. They need to take a good long look at what made TNG so popular, and it wouldn' hurt to take a look at the best aspects of DS9 too (IE, character development).

  6. I think what Activision are generally getting at is that with Star Trek seemingly in decline at the movies and on TV, the problem will spread to the games too- poor publicity for one sector of the franchise will tarnish another. I also think Activision have a point about co-ordinated marketing.

  7. Hmmmmm, Nemesis...

Well, for a start, was the dirt-buggy scene even necessary? They could have cut that, and had more interaction between Picard and Beverly, or Data and Geordi. It would have been nice to actually have Beverly play a bigger role in Nemesis, and have her relationship with Picard explored a little, especially seeing as she was leaving. Likewise, a few happy, funny scenes between Data and Geordi would have made Data's death all the more poingant.

And what was it with Data? He goes from an emotional android in Generations, First Contact and Insurrection, to the emotionless android of the show. Why was he suddenly emotionless? His death would have much more meaning if he were still displaying emotion.

I didn't care much for the download of Data's memories to B4 either. If you're going to kill a character, don't leave such an obvious return mechanism in place. If the plan is to bring Data back, let it be a subtle thing.

Would also have been nice to see some more exchanges between Riker and Troi, and Riker and Picard. After all, if the family is being broken up, even some exchanges in the heat of battle would serve a purpose, adding to the tension, the fear of being broken up forcibly, by death.

The battle was great, and the Scimitar was clearly a titan of a warship. It was like watching a heavyweight boxing match with one figher wearing a blindfold. We saw just how tough the Enterprise's hide is.

  8. The Enterprise probably took part in some off-screen battles. For all we know, she was part of the 7th fleet, one of the few surviving ships from the 14 to limp home in 'A Time to Stand', and involved in the fight to retake Betazed. She could have been anywhere, but I know one thing- Starfleet would be insane to keep their most advanced ship out of the fighting.

  9. I was just thinking.  Is it possible that a large problem with Trek is that the show is made too much for the fans, and not enough for the broad audience?

I think the problem is more the other way around. Or rather, the combination of the producers trying to make ENT both a show that fans will enjoy, and into a show that people who've never seen Star Trek before can watch and understand. The trouble is, I don't think the producers quite know whether they want to appeal to a new audience, or to the fanbase the've already got. They want to have it all, and thus I fear they will end up with nothing.

I disagree. Any producer of any TV should should try to produce a show that both fans and the broad audience would enjoy.

Only trouble is that trying to do that, who are they appealing to? On the one hand you've got T'Pol and episodes like 'A night in Sickbay' to attract younger male viewers, and spicing the show up with sexy men and women and moments of battle... the next they're delving into the Star Trek lore, when they need to make up their minds...

Maybe it's just me, but ENT seems a bit directionless... they need to get in some new writers, fresh blood for it.

  10. Season 5 or 6.... I can't choose... so many great episodes... One where Jake got a taste of war upclose... I can't believe I don't remember the title... 'The Ship' was great, 'The Darkness and the Light', 'The Begotten', and of course, a powerful season finale... then we had the openers to Season 6, Sacrifice of Angels in particular, 'In the Pale Moonlight'...
