  1. I am in the Navy.  When I was aboard a ship I was drinking more coffee than water.  I think at that time my blood was half caffeine.   :wow:

I agree, Odie. we in the Navy enjoy massive quantities of Coffee that often resembles used motor oil. I know when I go to sea, and even here at home, I have to make sure I don't have too much blood in my Coffee system.

Inport I try not to drink too much coffee. I need the caffee kick underway. Esp. for the mid-watch on the bridge.

I, too, was in the Navy. I retired 2 years ago and spent the whole time saturated with coffee. Now I only drink a pot and a half a day. I had to slow down a bit as I didn't need to stay awake 12 days a week anymore.

So, YES, I love coffee. :wow:

  2. As far as the DVD collection, it's already out....Walmart has it for $99.96, in a Cylon helmet box. My son is buying it for me for Christmas. As to the new series, didn't everyone give TNG, VOY, DS9, and ENT a chance. Not all were fantastic but we still watched them. IMO, we should give the new BG series a chance as well. The previews look like a winner and the story line isn't all that far removed from the original. A few character changes and the thing with the Cylons being created by humans isn't as strange as the NX-01 looking more futuristic than 1701, or having Bill Shatner play an ancient version of his relative on ENT. This is science fiction people....... Weird and different is what sets it apart from boring reality.

  3. Went with everything. I am watching the season premier now and I already love the opening theme. Much better than last year. I sincerely hope this is just the beginning of what should be a great season. I want to enjoy Star Trek again and ENT could bring me around with a little more imagination, some better story lines and better acting. Here's to hoping.........

  4. It worked well in TNG and DS9....why not on ENT. Might bring a few more people over that either don't like ENT or don't get into it too much. I'm not really into ENT but if the story's would get better along with upgrading the characters, I'd be willing to watch more often.

  5. OK,OK....how about Bill plays a small part (sorry Bill) such as the cabin-boy from another ship that strands him on a planet where Enterprise just happens to stop for some much needed R&R after befriending a race of spider people that help Archer defeat their long-time enemy, The BlackFlaggers (bug spray) of Hi-Veria. Bill is brought aboard to assist Archers cook in developing a new menu for Porthos...........But............unbeknownst to the crew, Bill is infected with a rare disease which will cause permanent blindness in all Vulcans and any space-race which has more than 6 eyes, although he is only a carrier of the disease. Bill could be cured when, through a time-displacement accident, Dr. Bashir is transported through time to assist Dr. Phlox in curing Bill's ailment and afterwhich he (Bill) is transported through time to become his own veterinarian.

    Maybe???????

  6. Being retired military, the red lights help promote good "night-vision".

When working in a near dark situation, your eyesight needs time to adapt to the dark. You can try this by waiting until later in the evening, about 2230 should do. Go from your normally lighted home and step outside where you can't see the street lights and look at the stars. If you stay there about 2 minutes, you'll find you can see many more stars than when you first came out. Now, walk back inside for about 15 seconds (notice how bright it seems) and go back out again. It'll take a little longer to adapt this time because your eyes were "shocked" with the bright lights. In the military world, this can be a bad thing, so at night, red lights are activated to allow evening watch standers and patrols to maintain the best eyesight they can in order to be able to find those buzzers, switches, dials and knobs, klingons or cardassians.....and the coffee pot. Even astronomers use red flashlights or other red light producing items when star gazing.

    Hope this helps.

  7. I'd watch it, just like every other episode (any series) and if I didn't like what I was watching, the remote will be put to better use than sitting on the coffee table.

I didn't like DS9 all that much nor ENT, but I watch them anyway. If the episode is, in my opinion, boring, I'll change the channel or shut the TV off and find something else to do.

  8. I don't think it would pay to have it. I live in Virginia and go to Paramount's Kings Dominion every year. They had a Star Trek theme there a few years back and it didn't fare too well. I picked up some nice memorabalia from the shops, but as for a whole park devoted to Star Trek.........I don't think there are enough fans around to keep the park running.

  9. I'd have to say Capt. Riker. Serving with Picard has given him the necessary experience to sit in "The Chair" and he has a charm that makes him ideal for an authority figure. He combines humor and seriousness in such a way that there is no doubt he could charm the pant's off a Klingon (figurativly speaking). Spock would be next as I respect his 1/2 human logical approach to everything. Chakotay would tie for third with Kira, and I'd never want to see T'Pol commanding anything more important than a lounge. She's way too by the book and cautious about things. No fun there. :spock:

  10. I don't have an idea for a future series, but I do know that I'd be happy as a clam to sit and watch a new series unfold and give all Trek fans new conversation starters. Trek has been around for 35 years now and all the ideas for scripts and books haven't even been scratched yet. There is soo much young talent "out there" just waiting to be heard or seen.

  11. How many episodes can you put on one disk times the cost of the blank disk compared to simply buying the library when it comes out. Do the math and decide if it's a waste of time or just smart budgeting. If you go into the stores, you'll find that each season of any series costs $30 and up. I think you're doing the correct thing by recording the show now.

  12. I enjoyed Tremors (the 1st movie). The second movie was silly but enjoyable. The third one was just ok. As for the series, I record all the episodes I can't actually be in front of the TV to watch. I never miss a show. I think it's a funnier way of viewing the hell the people in Perfection live through on a daily basis and the fact that the writers keep coming up with new mutations (thanks in part to the Mixmaster) keeps the shows worth watching. I look forward to the next season. :spock:

  13. Of course there are contradictions. There would have to be with so many different story lines and characters involved. If everything fell into place nice and tidy like, we, as fans, would get bored just sitting there and watching each episode as though it were a live broadcast continued from the previous episode. Plus, it gives us something to talk/laugh about afterwards.

  14. :) Hmmmm.....I'd have to go with "Fan". I watched each series with a critical eye. I loved ST:TOS for it's originality and the creation of the fan base. Each series that followed had something new and interesting to add which made tham all great, but some episodes weren't worth watching more than once due to poor acting, bad dialogue, too many personal issues (not a bad thing, but boring), or low-grade special effects. I don't "hate" any series, but I lean more towards TOS, and TNG than the others. I don't want to get anyone peeved about this post so, in advance, I apologize to anyone who feels I've done Trek an injustice. :)

  15. I didn't read all the posts, but I agree, to a point with most. I feel that The holographic doctor on ST:VOY was without a doubt the MOST annoying character in Star Trek history. He was pompous, arrogant, self rightious, boring, and I guess flaky would sum it up. I wasn't a big fan of Voyager, but at least some of the characters were likable.

    To Boldly Go ... Matt Jeffries: 1921 - 2003

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Matt Jeffries, the man who designed the fictional Starship Enterprise for the original television series "Star Trek", passed away Monday at the age of 82.

With its saucer-shaped primary hull, separate engineering section and twin warp nacelles, the U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701, has become one of the most recognizable icons of the space age.

Jeffries came up with the ship design for "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry during the mid 1960s. The design evolved as the original show gave way to a string of movies and four new television series.

"Matt was a gentle soul. He has put his stamp on everything we have done since his brilliant, classic Enterprise," Herman Zimmerman, production designer for the current series "Enterprise," said in a statement posted on the official Star Trek web site.

References to Jeffries' contribution continues in almost every episode and movie as the engineering tunnels that run inside each starship are called "Jeffries Tubes" by the characters.

Often considered the true star of the show, the original Starship Enterprise and the series it represented was so popular that following a mail and phone campaign by fans NASA named the prototype shuttle Enterprise after the ship Jeffries designed.

  18. I had to go with TNG. It'll be 16 years old on Sept 28th and I haven't missed an episode (except when I was out to sea) and those episodes were recorded for me by my family. TOS was a close 2nd and VOY taking the bronze. B)
