    Actually Ferengi do shed their "baby" ears.

    Young Ferengi children are often called "lobelings" before they've lost their first set of ears.

     

    It's not like hew-mon teeth however.

    Instead, it's more like a metamorphoses. The old ears are "shed" rather than "lost."

    In other words there is never a point that a Ferengi child is lobe-less.

     

    This is all confirmed in the Star Trek Encyclopedia.

    I actually think this was a great move for the Ferengi Alliance.

     

    As it's now been a few years since the implementation of these reforms, we've seen quite an increas in Ferengi commerce. Sure, there have been some businesses that have suffered, but they did not re-market correctly.

     

    Women's clothing has, for example, opened a whole new venue for profit on Ferenginar. Not to mention salves and ointments for women's skin; since their bodies aren't used to fabric rubbing on them all the time they've needed these things.

     

    As FCN (the Ferengi Commercial News) has reported, profits are on a whole up, and the Great Material Continum has been revived in a way we've not seen since the hey-day of former nagus Zek. The new Grand Nagus Rom is gaining popularity daily, and many are changing over to be for the reforms daily.
