  1. It's a very interesting premise for Trek. I don't think a series would be a good idea though, since a major part of the appeal is mystery.

I can't believe that prediction was made about Reed back in '03. :P That was impressive!

  2. I'm definatly taking this with a grain of salt. With everything Paramount is doing now I don't think Berman or Braga are going to be leading the Trek charge for a while. From everything I've seen it looks more like they will be distancing themselves from Trek for a while.

I am sure XI won't involve Enterprise. From what I've seen some people believed this to be the natural progression (Bakula) while others seemed to never even consider that. I also don't think Enterprise was popular enough to make Paramount comfortable with a theatrical release.

TNG is still a possibility. Spiner seems to want to distance himself from Data, because his age is beginning to show. However, outside of him the rest of the cast seems ok with showing up for these movies. I get the impression that much of the cast is not exactly excited about these roles, but they do seem to show up. There is the issue with Troi and Riker on another ship, but that's easy to get around (Undiscovered Country).

I'd love to see a movie based on DS9, but that seems difficult from both the casting standpoint as well as writing. I just don't see that happening.

As much as it might upset people I do pray they don't try a Voyager movie. Sorry, I'm just not a fan of that series.

I also hope they don't do a prequel. I think it's time to consider getting back into the 24th Century. They should look for a cast of relatively unknowns and try to keep the budget under control. If they can focus on the writing they can make fans happy and they don't need a wild special effects show to put people in the theaters. People want to see a good Trek story, not special effects.

    Ah well, we'll see.....

  3. I don't know. I see the value of adding a beautiful girl to the show. I see the value of dressing her in a sexy outfit. As someone said, sex sells. Even going outside of Trek you find this on most shows. Atlantis has what's her name. Boston Legal has three beautiful girls. This is something you find on almost all shows.

I think it was a mistake to try to use a Vulcan for this. If they wanted to do a sexy woman they could have easily done this as the helmsperson or such.

The problems with Enterprise, though, went way beyond this issue. What's really sad is I am convinced that Paramount could put out a wildly popular Trek show if they put some real effort into it and stopped trying to just take the simple way out.

  4. I liked the show better after the Dominion story arc was introduced. I do think that the show could have done a bit more outside of the Dominion arc after the war started. I mean I understand, their at war so that is the main thing happening, but I think a few more stand alone episodes not dealing with the war could have helped maintain the interest of those not interested in the war.

I find it interesting though that so many of the bigger sci-fi shows now introduce aliens posing as gods. In Trek, of course, you have the Founders. Stargate SG1 does this with the Goa'uld. B5 did this, to a degree, with the Shadows. It seems to me that this would create problems for those posing. You've got a Founder and their followers think they are a god. Ok, fantastic. Wow, your god's military force has lost battle after battle and are forced back to Cardassia. Any doubts about divinity yet? :P
