Found a color version of the Starfleet Command seal. BTW, it was first seen in the DS9 episode "Homefront", and later appeared in the VOY episode "In The Flesh". Source: Star Trek Sticker Book, by Michael Okuda, Denise Okuda & Doug Drexler, (Pocket Books). And it's not just the stickers, either. There's plenty of info about the graphics, ships, and hardware. The one I have is from '99, but I wonder if they've put out an updated one, including stuff from ENT. Anyone know?

  2. OK, anybody out there remember or know where I can purchase the Star Trek bath sponge? Don't know what year it was marketed, maybe around '96. It was blue with an oval shape, and had the Star Trek logo on the front with the words "Star Trek". I've already searched eBay with no luck.

BTW, this was the logo that had the Starfleet shape in an oval, pushed over to the left side, which I think came out around the 30th anniversary of TOS, or was possibly created for the "Star Trek Adventure" exhibit at the Las Vegas Hilton. Personally, I never cared for this logo, but I guess someone at Paramount wanted an updated look. It's never been seen on film, as far as I know.

  3. Glad you found it, Alterego. I also found some logos which I've put together into one graphic, showing the possible evolution from NASA to Star Fleet Command.

In tracking down the NASA logo, one website, The Space Store.com, had some info which I thought was interesting:

NASA's vector logo dates back to 1959 when the agency was created from the old National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA). Based on a NASA Lewis Research Center illustrator's design, it was modified by James Modarelli, head of Lewis' Research Reports Division. The sphere represents a planet, the stars represent space, the red chevron is a wing representing aeronautics, and the orbit represents a spacecraft going around the wing. It was nicknamed "The Meatball" in 1975, to differentiate it from NASA's new worm logo at the time. The worm logo was replaced by a revised version of the Meatball in 1992.

For more info, go to NASA's page about the Meatball logo

  4. Although the United Federation of Planets hasn't been formed yet, Starfleet Command certainly has, and I was just wondering if we've ever seen their logo on the show? It would be interesting, since we know that eventually it became the emblem Kirk wore in TOS, with a swish effect over it.

(BTW, for you rookies out there, you may be interested to know that originally, the triangle emblem from TOS was worn ONLY by the Enterprise crew. Each ship in the fleet had their own emblem. Check out the one worn by Commodore Decker in The Doomsday Machine, from his ship the U.S.S. Constitution.)

  5. For those of you who didn't see this ABC special about unsold TV pilots, there were at least four clips that were Trek related.

    1) "The Infiltrator" with Scott Bakula, who actually said the line "Beam me up, Scotty." I swear. If he only knew then...

    2) TV-movie "The Little People" (1970) with William Shatner, who said in a very Kirk-like manner "Think of the possibilities." Note: he played a country doctor; wonder if he asked De for any advice, heh heh.

    3) TOS "Assignment: Earth". They speeded up the film when Gary Seven used his transporter. Guess the SFX ran too long. Blooper: at the end there's a two-shot of Kirk and Spock, and they FLOPPED the image! Oops.

    4) TV-movie "The Questor Tapes", Gene's unsold pilot about an android trying to learn the human condition. Data wouldn't arrive until years later.

  6. Recently read a magazine interview with Adam West, who said he's thrilled that Batman is considered to be among other great fictional characters as James Bond and Captain Kirk. Can't remember which mag it was, but if anyone knows maybe they can post it, with a link to the interview.
