  1. The first volume of Star Trek: The Manga is titled "Shinsei Shinsei", comprised of five new Original Series stories...

TokyoPop editor Luis Reyes said he's worried that TOS purists won't approve of highly stylized interpretations of the famous characters: "I'm a fan," Reyes said at Comic-Con, but the manga-ka was warned by Star Trek executives, "Those fans will kill you."

CBS Consumer Products Executive Paula Block is said to have helped keep the manga in line with fan expectations, insisting that Reyes eliminate beads of sweat drawn on Captain Kirk: "It's okay with Scotty, but Kirk wouldn't have freaked out like that."

Sci-fi scribe Joshua Ortega teams up with illustrator Gregory Giovanni Johnson to create title Anything But Alone. There are four other tales, which include the origin of a major TNG foe: 'Til Death..., by writer Mike W. Barr and artist Jeong Mo Yang; Oban, by Jim Alexander and Michael J. Shelfer; Orphans, by Rob Tokar and EJ Su; and Side Effects, by Chris Dowes and Makoto Nakatsuka.

This title can be ordered now for September shipment...

  2. A change of StarTrek.com management shouldn't be a surprise.

In early April, I posted a news item at TrekWeb re the new CBS Digital Media. Here are excerpts from the press release...

"NEW YORK, March 31 -- Larry Kramer has been named President, CBS Digital Media, it was announced today by Leslie Moonves, Chairman, CBS and Co-President/Co-Chief Operating Officer, Viacom.

"Kramer, who founded Dow Jones' Market Watch, Inc. (formerly CBS Market Watch), will now oversee all developing new media operations for CBS, including CBS.com, CBS SportsLine.com, CBSNews.com and UPN.com, among others, as well as a new sales operation that will serve them. CBS Digital Media becomes a newly-created division within CBS headed by Kramer and reporting directly to Moonves."

    Note the following...

"As he incorporates existing digital and new media operations into this new CBS division, Kramer will work closely with Nancy Tellem, President of the CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group; Sean McManus, President of CBS Sports; and Andrew Heyward, President of CBS News, each of whom has been instrumental in developing and operating the various online content destinations that serve the Company, and who will continue to be integrally involved in ongoing new media strategy and content development."

  3. On October 18th, William Shatner was rushed by ambulance from the set of BOSTON LEGAL to Little Company of Mary Hospital. While in a cold sweat and shaking with pain, the erstwhile sci-fi rocketman received the attention of a medic: "Can I have your autograph?"

    Denny Crane!

Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, hosts of the LIVE WITH REGIS AND KELLY morning talk show, listened in astonishment on Monday as Shatner recounted how it took just 30 seconds for a tabloid to get whiff of his 911 scramble. "I got in the ambulance and the siren goes off, and the producer tells me [later] that -- he saw me off, waved goodbye, went up to his office, the phone rang, and it was a tabloid."

Read the complete report at TrekWeb, which includes a link to screen captures and MP3 clip of Shatner's TV interview.

    Picard: "Number One."

    Riker: "Yes, captain?"

Picard: "Let me ask you something. If I whispered in your ear that Commander Worf's head looks like a fanny, would you join me in a laugh?"

Riker: "Yeah, I could get in on that."

Picard: "All right, here it comes: Commander Worf's head looks like a fanny!"

Crew: "Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha..."

Worf: "You can both suck my ridges!"

Picard: "Oh, get a sense of humor, Rocky Dennis!"

There's a more complete report at TrekWeb, which includes a link to video clips from FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD.

FYI: Reference to DEEP SPACE NINE, and the fourth and fifth STAR TREK films, is made in FAMILY GUY Presents Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story direct-to-DVD movie which will be released this month in the USA and Canada (in October in the United Kingdom and Germany).

  5. Police sources say that Thomas Murphy has been sending Blalock scary love letters and making harassing phone calls, leaving messages like, "I can't live with my mom forever," and "We're meant to be together". Jolene may be able to breathe easier, at least for now: Murphy was taken to an Indianapolis hospital for a mental evaluation. And the timing may not have been better, as Murphy recently made rumblings about two other celebrities: Tori Spelling and Daryl Hannah...

  8. yeh but he has posted about this months ago on www.williamshatner.com

    its not really new.........

Read the eTalk transcript: Shatner clearly says, "So, you're learning for the first time that I have in my hip pocket a way of bringing the character back". The gang at BringBackKirk.com would know if this particular spin is old, yet they're jumping on it with excitement; Jason (a.k.a. BBKUS) described it as "awesome" news in his e-mail reply to me.

  10. During William Shatner's visit to Toronto last week, to promote Kellogg's All-Bran Challenge campaign, eTalk Daily learned that the former Starfleet captain has written a scenario for Kirk's return "for a show or two". Shatner hasn't yet presented his plot to TPTB, "because I don't know whether they're coming back". Shatner's comments suggest that Star Trek: Enterprise would be the vehicle of Kirk's comeback.
