StarTrek:Excalibur 0 Posted July 19, 2005 Press Release For immediate distribution June 2005 We are pleased to announce the official start of pre-production of "STAR TREK: EXCALIBUR " a tribute show based on Gene Roddenberry's original Star Trek. The internet based series will be produced by "Excalibur 1705 Films Ltd", a non profit Nevada Corporation and principal photography will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first episode is set to begin filming in November 2005. Episodes will be available as a free download from the official web site: www.startrekexcalibur.com. The Show will chronicle the adventures of Captain Thomas H. Nelson and the crew of the USS Excalibur. The time period of the show will correspond to what would have been the Original Star Trek's fourth season. The premise is that the USS Excalibur, which was heavily damaged and the crew killed during the Starfleet war games two years earlier (Star Trek Episode "The Ultimate Computer"), has completed two years of repair and upgrades and is re-launching with a new Captain and crew. Current plans will have a 10 episode "First Season". The first episode, entitled "Boldly Go...." will be written by Head Writer Karen Kerezman. Other stories in development involve the return of Harry Mudd (a fan favorite character), disputes with the Klingons and encountering "new civilizations". Many of the cast and crew are Hollywood Prop, Costume, Makeup and Effects people that are donating their time and talents to this production. Casting is ongoing and the cast will be announced and pictures posted on the Official Web site www.startrekexcalibur.com as soon as casting is completed. The show is being dedicated to the memory of Star Trek's creator Gene Roddenberry The sets will be built in warehouse space in the Las Vegas area and will include the Main Bridge, Transporter Room, Briefing room & a Main Corridor. Using original blueprints, when available, recreated plans and photographs to allow for as accurate a recreation of the original Star Trek sets as possible. Locations around Southern Nevada & Southern California will stand in for Alien Worlds. The costume designs of William Ware Theiss, costume designer of the original Star Trek, are being painstakingly recreated using materials as close to the original costumes as possible. Costume Designer Joseph Kerezman has also created a new uniform insignia for the show (pictured below) based on the design style of Mr Theiss. The visual effects will be done with computer generated images instead of miniatures like most current Science Fiction television series' The subtle redesign of the USS EXCALIBUR compared to the USS ENTERPRISE used in the original "Star Trek" incorporates design elements used in the version of the USS ENTERPRISE seen in "Star Trek The Motion Picture" as this series takes place about 4 1/2 years before the events depicted in that film. Here are several images of the Computer Generated USS EXCALIBUR. The ship was created by CG artist B. J. West, who will be creating many of the visual effects for the show The pictures contained within this press release are not to be used without permission. Premission is granted to use the pictures for any article (real world or internet) promoting the show. No other use is implied or given. The series Executive Producer is Joseph Kerezman and can be contacted at production@startrekexcalibur.com for any further information. "Star Trek" is the property of Paramount Pictures.
