Sensational episode.

A dark military based episode with the first appearance of the Cardassians and the Nebula Class Starship.

The performances from Colm Meaney and Marc Alaimo were excellent, and Bob Gunton as the disturbed Captain Benjamin Maxwell was absolutely brilliant.

Also, a wonderful twist ending where Picard reveals that Maxwell was right all along and the Cardassians were in fact up to something was a very satisfying ending to this episode.

Wonderful and brilliant.

Gold Standard.

I gave it a 4. Enter a new evil breed: The Cardassians. Gotta love the early uniforms and the headgear that these guys are sporting  . My fave trek race by far and to be honest I think that this ep holds up quite well. Marc Alaimo's performance as Gul Macet really defined how the Cardassians approached their enemies was so masterfully done that he became the legendary Gul Dukat on DS9. :look:

5. Great drama. I like how they showed how Gul Macet was willing to work to maintain the peace as much as possible, and then the twist at the end with Picard and him. Excellently executed. Only complaint was O'Brien's bit on the bridge. It sounded about as useless as Troi seems at times.
