The first 0.  I guess I'm the only one who feels that promoting T'DrugAbuse is filth.

Haven't forgotten about it at all. T'pol is not my main focus. Enterprise is. I still hope some kind of accounting will come about.

On the first day God created light.

On the second day, God created the heavens.

On the third day, he separated water and land, and created plant life.

On the fourth day he created the sun, moon, and stars.

On the fifth day marine life and birds.

On the sixth day land animals, and man and woman.

On the seventh day, God rested, and sanctified the day.

And on the eighth day God created His Royal Highness The King and sent him to Earth for an ENT Final Season Episode to review.

“Borderland”

Decent opening teaser with some great fight scenes. Seeing JG Hertzler again as a Klingon was a nice touch. Even if his scene only lasted about four seconds. Ahhh, Deep Space Nine, the good old days. B)

Casting Brent Spiner was a wise decision. Unlike some people, I don’t drool and fantasize over Spiner like some deranged “Play Misty For Me” stalker, but he’s a very good actor and it makes perfect sense for him to play Noonien Soong’s own ancestor.

The idea that the Eugenics Wars is finally mentioned again in Star Trek is a wise one. Also, it makes sense that this obsession the Soongs have with improving or creating life repeats itself through their family line. Having Arik as an expert in genetics is a very good way of foreshadowing Noonien’s expertise with Cybernetics.

It also brings up a moral debate as to whether the genetic improvement of humanity will spin out of control if not monitored carefully. It’s a concern that is relevant to the present day, which is exactly the point of Star Trek, to examine contemporary issues in a fictional context.

It’s something that was addressed in TNG where the debate centres on the biggest problem with artificial life. Do we concentrate on the “Life” or are we incapable of seeing past the fact that it’s “Artifical”?

Erm………….anyway. B)

BTW - The new Captain’s Chair looked very nice.

There was no reason for the Augments to look like Mad Max rejects. It made sense for Khan’s followers to be wearing rags in TWOK after being stuck on a planet for 15 years. It did not for the Augments.

Arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! The Big Show!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO B)

Am I cursed to be annoyed by this fool forever??? In fairness, this is a WWE grudge of mine, so I won’t blame ENT for that. Trust me, The Big Show’s eaten hotdogs bigger than T’Porn. But his presence in this episode hurts it, but again, that’s not ENT’s problem.

The Orions looked dumb. They reminded me of the Gamorrean Pig Guards from Return Of The Jedi.

I’m staggered by the bad acting of the actors who played the Augments. If we do genetically engineer humans in the future, let’s hope that along with superior strength and intelligence, we give them better acting skills too.

Including elements of strive between the Augments makes sense. We know that the Eugenics Wars were fought between the genetically engineered supermen. Their enhanced abilities breeds an arrogance and a belief that they have a right to rule, obviously making potential conflict between themselves understandable and a natural consequence of breeding people who are told they are superior to all others.

The plot element of Archer’s father dying from the same disease Arik later could have cured through his morally questionable work raises an interesting ethical problem. It reminds me of the situation with Dr. McCoy and his father, even though that was a different scenario. But it’s still interesting nonetheless.

Arik’s oh-so-scary speech about going to get the thousands of Augments waiting to be born (or hatched?) is somewhat rendered less than scary because of the fact we know that thousands of Augments never appeared in Star Trek in the future. I suppose they could address this in a later incarnation of Star Trek, but I doubt it, because it’s already been seen and done with Space Seed and TWOK, so it makes no sense to rehash that plot again. B)

This is the problem with prequels, in the sense that you can’t do anything innovative because it might conflict with things we know about already, and if you don’t do anything innovative, it becomes stale and boring and you lose the viewers. I guess old Brannon and Rick never considered that. Maybe they never got past the “Hey, T’Porn will be soooooooooo sexy” gimmick when they were supposed to be creating a worthwhile incarnation of the Star Trek saga. :P

Overall, a half decent episode, but only because it’s drawing upon previously established Trek stories, ie the Soong family and Eugenics, so it has a vibe of “rehash” to it. But I’ll see how this whole arc pans out.

I’m now four episodes into this final season, and I’ve yet to see these alleged “great improvements” made by Manny Coto.

So I give it a rating of 2

Sounds a tad bit like Frankenstein/Young Frankenstein.

The obsession with life, and creating new life from one family generation to another.

:P B)

In master piece society (TNG) it is a genetically engineered society that presents itself as perfect. A quick question, could not the Augments have found thier planet and diverted their energies to a more fuitful persiut?
