Has a movie ever been filmed in your hometown?

Recommended Posts

Has a movie ever been filmed in your hometown (or whatever), that you know of?

For example, the following movies/TV movies have been at least partially filmed in my hometown of Cambridge, Ontario:

Big Spender (2003) (TV)

Cold Creek Manor (2003)

Haven (2001) (TV)

In-Laws, The (2003/I)

John Q (2002)

Rescuers: Stories of Courage: Two Women (1997) (TV)

Saint Ralph (2004)

Sons of Mistletoe (2001) (TV)

(I found these using the Internet Movie Database)

Location tree

I think you should be able to determine if a movie was in your hometown by narrowing things down through the location tree. I thought this might be a cool thing to see. Plus, it may give us an idea of what things are like where you live.

Jack,

How do you find out where a movie was flimed on imdb? I looked around... well anyways I live in VA where there are ALOT of plantations, and there's one not too far from me (20 miles, maybe?) where Cupid & Cate was filmed. It's a movie for tv that I never watched. Go fig. I've also been to Glendalough, Ireland where a few of the fights in Braveheart were filmed, but I don't think that counts.

~T :)

OH!! OK!! If I had actually read what you said I would have figured it out.

That was interesing.

In my hometown? No - Nearby

So Sunshine State and Cross Creek were both fairly close

There was actually an unheard of movie filmed in a small town my county - it's like a post office and gas station and there it was on the list... :)

GI Jane was filmed nearby. I was suprised.

Several actually. In fact, today I had to sign a waiver because I drove my Semi through a shot. There are many filmed here, as well as, series. It is always strange to see an actor that you have seen in the theater or on TV right in front of you when you live in the Rocky Mountains of Utah.

These were filmed just across the river from my home town. The mothman movies were about the collapse of the silver bridge connecting my home town with Point Pleasant where the films were shot. For more information on the silver bridge collapse see my thread in off topics.

Movies made in my home town..........None, that I know of.

But thats probably because my home town is in NZ & only has a population of 75-80 thousand people.

Oh but the CGI for LOTR was done in Wellington about 200 Km south of my home town.

I don't know if this is one of those urban legends but apparently the clock tower in Clockwork Orange is the clock tower in my town. It is said that Stanley Kubrick used it as it is the bleakest place that he had ever been/seen. I have never seen the film so can not confirm it but my town is pretty bleak. :)

Actually IN my home town (and I live in the country - my town finally topped 3,000 a few years ago), only one that I know of - part of the library scene in "The Man Without A Face." In fact, my mother was librarian then, and got to meet Mel Gibson and watch the whole process.

In the town that is my second home, they filmed parts of "The Man Without A Face," "Peyton Place" (My gfather worked as a dialect coach on that movie), "The Bedroom (or whatever that Sissy Spacek movie is called), and a Steven King movie. There are a couple more, I think, but I don't remember them offhand...

Surfacing (2002)

Thais (1917)

We Shall Return (1962)

One of my uncles(my mom's side) actually had a small part in "Illegally Yours", but ended up on the cutting room floor (OK, I counted him as an extra, but I honestly do not recall if he had a speaking part in it). And my aunt(his sister) catered for the cast and crew, occasionally).

That movie, bleahhhh....it was aweful. And one of my biggest complaints is that they cut and pieced the town together. They have stuff that is in the historic section(downtown), with stuff on the island. And stuff that is north of town with stuff that....well you kind of get the picture.

Off topic but I wanted to share it with you.

One scene from Jurassic Park 1 was filmed nearby to where I live now. Remember the opening shot (first time dinos are shown) of long necked dinos standing in and around water, that was filmed at the Wild Animal Park. The Tram tour includes seeing the shot from nearly the same place the camera stood.
