"Live and Let Die" for the following reasons (in no particular order):

1. Roger Moore, who is IMO the best Bond.

2. A young Jane Seymour. :)

3. Yaphet Kotto, one of the best Bond bad-guys.

4. Supernatural undertones which gave the film a certain mystery lacking in the other Bond films.

5. A killer soundtrack.

6. Jeffrey Holder's laugh.

My top list would go as follows:

From Russia With Love

Dr. No

Goldfinger

You Only Live Twice

On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Thunderball

Diamonds Are Forever

Live and Let Die

Personally I believe Connery was the all time best Bond. He had everything to really bring the character from the books to life.

After Connery I would go for George Lazenby as his story an almost epic-like quality to it and the line just before the opening title sequence is one I can always remember.

I never really liked Moore as I never felt he was playing the part of Bond but that his interpretation was just an extension of the character he had created in The Saint.

Dalton tried to play the part as it was written in the books however (and I have read them) I feel his overall performance misses the point. For me the Dalton Bond had little to no charisma and it all felt very forced. But the main point that I always make is that he comes across as vicious rather than brutish.

And now I shall come to Brosnan. God that last film was poor! Too much 'cartoon' special effects, too many crude attempts to make sexual references that attempted to classify themselves as innuendo but failed.

The one person that I always felt would have made a good Bond is Patrick McGoohan. Yes I realise he is too old now but in his day he had all the attributes to play the part with great skill.

As a side note, did anyone know that McGoohan was actually offered the part before Connery? In one way I am glad, but there will always be part of me who would have liked to see the McGoohan Bond.

I agree about Bronsnan being too comic-ish and Die Another Day was way too similar to crappy pop-culture movies (The Fast and the Furious, XXX), meaning it was all visual. It had zero story. (Although it was way better than the crappy movies I just mentioned. Lol.

HOWEVER, I totally disagree with the Dalton thing. I love him as Bond. He was so much more dangerous and dark. He seemed to have a disturbed side to him, hinting that Bond ISN'T invincible. He always seemed to be troubled and it broke back a level of realism to the series (after Moore's highly comical movies). And that realism stayed until the fateful release of Die Another Day where the producers seemed to throw the series in the toilet.

Fair enough, I understand where you are coming from and agree with many of your points. The main reason I put him down in 4th was that Moore's films were lighthearted and had some good co-stars such as Christopher Lee although I do not like the overall feel of the films when compared to the 60's Bonds.

I also always felt that Dalton's 'thing' or image was to portray the Bond from the books as closely as possible. On this point I feel he falls behind Connery's Bond (particularly the way he played the part in Dr No and From Russia with Love). When I watch Tim Dalton I just feel he tries too hard and extenuates certain aspects of the character at the expense of others, but all in all a good attempt.

When I look at the films I am able to enjoy all of them on some level (except the lastest one which was really poor and had no story what-so-ever) but my Bonds are Connery and Lazenby.

On the McGoohan point, how would you have felt about him as Bond?

Sean Connery will ever be the ultimate James Bond. I enjoy watching all of those movies. My favorite, however, is Goldeneye, and only for purely shallow reasons. I just watch to see Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean on the same screen. It's the same shallowness that makes me watch Patriot Games. Harrison Ford and Sean Bean is almost as good...

I honestly have no idea who that is. Lol. And I don't think I could ever imagine anyone other than Connery as the original Bond. Sam Neil was considered for Bond before Dalton was signed for the role. I saw the screen test and it was actually pretty good.

I liked Die Another Day. I haven't seen too many Bond movies but that movie had a lot of great action.

If you liked DAD then I recommend all the others because DAD was one of the worst ones, along with Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker. If you liked the high action I HIGHLY recommend Goldeneye. It's really good.

Patrick McGoohan played Number 6 in The Prisoner (The forefather of shows like Twin Peaks). He was also in Danger Man and Secret Agent. If you like spy shows then I would definately recommend the shows he was in.

I wonder who will be the next Bond as Brosnan can't have long to go.

Although I like all the 007 movies, my favorites include "Dr. No", "Goldfinger", "You only Live Twice [little Nellie..." well, she is quite a gal"]", and "In Her Majesty's Secret Service [Diana Rigg ... well, she IS quite a gal!]".

Well Pierce Brosnan is saying that Bond 21 will be his last film. He wants to leave before he gets old and stale like Roger Moore in 'A View To A Kill' I geuss. Rumours are that Clive Owen ('BMW Films', 'Gosford Park') is being considered for the roll. I wouldn't be opposed to that. He is a good actor and he seems to be able to act in many different roles (see the 'BMW Films'). And also Clive Owen is an amazing driver. He could do his own driving in the movies. (Although they had better not bring back BMW. Aston Martin needs to stay for a while).

My favorite is You Only Live Twice; a close second is From Russia With Love. I know I am showing my age in these choices. I love Sean Connery.

Not necessarily. I'm only 17 and I absolutely love Sean Connery as James Bond. (Never Say Never Again being the only exception. What a terrible movie). Sean Connery was at his absolute best in Goldfinger, and he was great in From Russia With Love as well. The rest he does a good job with as well, but he is the best in the forementioned films. Go Sean Connery!!!

(I've also come to love Timothy Dalton as my second favourite. I just love how serious he took the role after the Roger Moore slap-stick era. And The Living Daylights is amazing. That's why I have him as my avatar). I have Sean Connery one though and I think I may change it.

EDIT: As you can see I have my Connery avatar up now.
