Information needed for my first fan fiction

Recommended Posts

I've decided to try my hand at writing a few Star Trek stories.

I've got an idea about what the stories are that I want to tell, but I have a decision to make and need a little information.

(1) Does anybody know what the stardate was for the film Nemesis,or what year that "adventure" occured in?

(2) Should I create a ship and crew of my own,or should I take the Titan,Captain Riker,Counselor Deanna Riker, and create a supporting cast of new characters around them?

I already have made up several crew members who I think would work well for the Titan scenario. And it might be easier for me to write about some familiar characters,at least at the beginning here...but I'm not sure. There's a lot I don't know about the Titan, its crew, its primary mission, etc.

Any help with that stardate/year or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not much help with stardates, but I'd LOVE to read a story about Captain Riker and the Titan!

I'm fairly certain Nemesis occured sometime in the very early 2380's...but an exact date eludes me,as does a stardate.

If you are just starting off writing your own Trek stories,it may be a good idea to write about familiar characters for a while.Later on after you're more comfortable writing fiction, you'll be a lot better prepared to create your own unique characters/personalities.

Of course, you DO plan on letting us read your stuff, right?

A Star Trek booksite I just found says that Riker and Troi are married in their 15th-year of service aboard Enterprise.

Now,I don't know if that's official or not,but the book says this apparently.By my calculations that would mean Nemesis takes place sometime in 2379.Hope that helps a little.I couldn't find anything about a stardate.I'll assume the movie and its novelization do not mention any stardates.

well as i see it, only Deanna and Riker were "canon"ly moved to the Titan, which leaves Ops, Tactical, Science, Medical, Engineering etc...

as for the stardate it was 56835 or so.....my fan fic starts on 57000.0, which i thought was 6 months from Nemesis, but it doesnt....i took notes during the movie and im pretty sure thats what i wrote....

so 56835, it sorta rings a bell....st.com may have it...

Yeah writting some stories about the Titan will be interesting for sure. And I will read it, but just be aware that lots of fan authors might try to do the same thing. For the sake of originality I'm not basing any of my characters on previous treks, although one or two of my characters might have some sort of affiliation with a series character for cameo purposes. My fan fiction might be ready by 2004 but no date has been set yet.

I went ahead and created my own ship and crew.

To tell the truth,though....except for the Captain and the smart *buttocks* helsman (characters based on myself and my best friend...I'm captain,of course),I don't really care about the other crew members as I write about them. And if I don't care about them, then nobody else will, either.

I've decided to put my story on hold until I go back and flesh out the primary characters a little better in my own mind, and give them some personality and depth of character.

The ship I've decided on my sound like an odd choice, but I picked an Oberth. The reasons being the captain is first and foremost a scientist, and this ship was his first command (he's really attached to it). Also he knows that with a larger ship will come a more varried array of mission profiles, and he doesn't want to be a diplomat or a soldier.I don't see him as being so much afraid of those responsibilities as disdainful of them.Something I want to keep up throughout the series of stories (I'm planning on writing more) will be Starfleet's frustration with trying to get him off the ship and into the center seat of a newer, faster, better equipped vessel, while he refuses promotion after promotion (even as the Oberths are phased out of active service, one after the other).

I call the ship USS Axanar (I couldn't think of anything else, except for USS Lord Nelson...but that didn't work for a science ship).

mines the U.S.S. Poseidon, Akira-Class variant...with over 10 phaser arcs, 5 photon torpedo launchers, 2 Quantum Torpedo launchers and a Pulse Phaser Canon on the saucer alone, it is the most heavily armored starship in the entire Starfleet.

Click for Spoiler:

The U.S.S. Poseidon is officially classified as a escort-class starship, unofficially it is a Long Range Armored Tactical & Science interceptor. With over 10 phaser arcs, 5 photon torpedo launchers, 2 Quantum Torpedo launchers and a Pulse Phaser Canon on the saucer alone, it is the most heavily armored starship in the entire Starfleet.

On stardate 56678.9, Admiral Janeway and the admiralty of Starfleet Security decided that, after the Dominion War, the attempted WOMD attack on Earth by Shinzon and a renewed Borg threat, Starfleet needed something tougher and meaner. In total 37 prototype vessels were launched, including variants of popular classes, like the U.S.S. Ogasuki, a variant of the Galaxy-class and the U.S.S. Allendale, a variant of the Defiant-class. However all 37 shakedown cruises revealed the same flaw, the ship had too many teeth for its own good, Starfleet Engineering could not produce a large enough structural integrity field to compensate for the rapid acceleration.

With hope fading a brash Commander approached the committee and proposed the U.S.S. Poseidon, akira-class variant. The Commander theorised that with extra distance between the warp nacelles and the primary and engineering hull, the "wind sheer" would be greatly reduced. During the first shakedown cruise, in a one-man test craft, Commander Miller noted that the new design was working, up until warp 7.5. Back on the drawing board, the Commander again referred to 20th century aircraft mechanics and theorised that with the addition of "always on spoilers" and micro-deflector dishes on these extra bits of hull, the solar wind and usual debris common in space would bounce off and not affect the ship. Testing this in the NX-92620-b, again a one-man test craft, Miller was able to ascertain warp 9.931. Hoping to increase this, Commander Miller added power conduits to the spoilers, which would add "fuel to the fire" that is the matter-anti-matter reactor.

On the third test, in the NX-92620-b, Commander Miller reached warp 9.986. Very happy with this result, he was given the go ahead to produce the full scale version. 6 months later the NX-92620-c left spacedock and successfully completed a one week shakedown cruise, reaching a maximum speed of warp 9.931, and cruising at warp 9.6 for 48 hours straight.

Starfleet, very pleased with the result, dismantled the NX test craft and gave the go ahead for the NCC-92620 and promoted Commander Miller to Captain. Given command of his first ship he hand-picked his bridge crew from his previous assignments. Sadly, one week before the scheduled launch of the U.S.S. Redemption, Captain Miller's wife passed away, she was a constant inspiration to the success of the program and the ship name was changed to honour her passion, Greek mythology. Poseidon is the Greek god of sea and fire, a fitting end to one of the greatest inspirations to Captain Miller's life.

2 months into her historic mission, the Klingon empire demanded her immediate disassembly, arguing that the Poseidon was not in the true nature of the Federation and that it was a threat, not only to the Klingon empire, but the entire Alpha Quadrant. However, for now the Poseidon has been saved from oblivion by an unknown assailant at the edge of Federation territory.

The entire bridge crew was hand-picked and promoted by Captain Miller, with their sub-ordinates picked by them. A tight nit crew defends the Federation from uncertainty.

But back on topic, Captain your story sounds interesting and i look forward to reading it.

Nice ship Trekzone. I love the Akira ships! They look so much cooler then say, a Galaxy class.

I think I mentioned somewhere a long time ago that I designed two new ships for my fanfic. The fanfic was dropped (GCSE year) but the ships remain. Huzzah! Now all I need is some design software...

EDIT: I just read your Spoiler. Your fanfic sounds very interesting! I think I'll check it out...

To write a fanfiction with characters that have been already been made means that you must know each character that you write about, there personality, you have to assimilate the character in some way and become the character as you write. I don't know if this is any help, but it s annoying when you read fanfiction when a character does something that isn't like the character... now I am being confusing...

:garak::wow:

Well, for that reason I've done alot of research on several characters just to write my fanfic, and that's why it's not finished yet...

If it's no problem, can I ask for which stardate did Endgame occured in? :tear:

Cool ideas for a Fan Fiction, Captain_Smiley. When you write a book, let me know when you finish with it! I plan to be a writer too. I love to write. Hey, if you start your story, can I be in it?
