athena28 2 Posted September 11, 2008 In the Star Trek universe, dead isn't dead. Star Trek: The Experience Vegas Return RumoredBy John Scott Lewinski September 10, 2008 | 7:39:56 PMCategories: Events, Exhibit, Star Trek, Television, Travel In the Star Trek universe, dead isn't dead. Just ask Spock. Now, less than two weeks after Star Trek: The Experience closed its docking doors in Las Vegas, rumors of a new home for the sci-fi attraction are beaming into Sin City. A spokesman for Vegas entertainment website AmericanLowLife.com is reporting a potential "meeting of the Experiences," with the Star Trek version moving downtown to a new home along the Fremont Street Experience. Rumors have the Trek museum, shops and rides moving into the Neonopolis, a retail and entertainment center on Fremont Street's eastern end. Requests for confirmation from Neonopolis representatives have gone unheeded so far, but hailing frequencies remain open. A l t e r E g o 9 Posted September 11, 2008 I am not ready to say I believe it yet, but if true, then great.
VaBeachGuy 12 Posted September 11, 2008 That'll be great if it's true. I had hoped for a return in the newer section of the strip of course but if they return I won't complain. Of course I only saw the Freemont area from a bus as we were returning from the Hoover Dam tour so I don't know how "old" or "new" that section is. It was just my impression that it was in an older part of the strip.
Indy 8 Posted September 11, 2008 I'm not certain, but I believe the Fremont area is the original Las Vegas strip. It had fallen into disrepair and had become a not very savory part of town (and the surrounding area still is), but the Fremont strip itself has been rehabilitated and a canopy installed on which they project light shows with various themes. They have a very entertaining one about aliens and Area 51. It wouldn't be my first choice for the Star Trek Experience, I would prefer it stayed somewhere on the main strip, but it's better than not at all.

Yeah, that was my impression of the Freemont area too and I would also rather see it in a big hotel as an attraction. But regardless I'd still go to it. Plus the Freemont Experience would be cool to see.
Indy 8 Posted September 11, 2008 It is very cool as long as you stay right on the few blocks that have been redone.
VaBeachGuy 12 Posted September 11, 2008 It is very cool as long as you stay right on the few blocks that have been redone. Problem is that the Monorail doesn't have a stop right at that location so you either have to walk there or take a taxi.
Kor37 9 Posted September 11, 2008 As I recall, the Fremont area is considered the "downtown" of Vegas. I've been there several times. I thought it was pretty nice. Thats where the giant cowboy with the waving hand is.
VaBeachGuy 12 Posted September 11, 2008 Is the Cowboy still there? I didn't see it, but I'm sure there was a whole lot I didn't see. 3 nights isn't even a blink of the eye in Vegas.

Indy 8 Posted September 12, 2008 When I was there (in 2005), they were even warning tourists visiting Fremont strip to be wary of pick-pockets. Since during the light shows, everybody is looking up at the canopy, it's a good opportunity for pickpockets to make a few bucks.
trekz 7 Posted September 12, 2008 We went to the Fremont area in 2006. It is the old Las Vegas area. The Golden Nugget Casino and numbers of others are over there. As I recall the slots were friendlier. The casinos gave away Tshirts and stuff for signing up for their cards. The Light Shows are fun. Just stick your hands in your pockets and look up! That will foil those pickpockets. You should try it!
Kor37 9 Posted September 12, 2008 As far as I know, the big cowboy is still there. He's an icon in Vegas! I personally never felt threatened in the Fremont area. I thought it was really cool. I've never even heard of anyone saying anything bad about it until now. We spent a whole evening there last time we went.

You should go and shoot video to post for all of the STF members who have never seen Freemont St.

Indy 8 Posted September 12, 2008 Just stay on Fremont Street itself. It is very well-lit and really a fun place. My daughters and I went alone, we were able to park in a lot directly adjoining the strip because the lot attendant thought my daughters were cute, and we spent an entire evening there. My youngest was underage at that time, so we didn't go into any of the casinos but there was plenty of other stuff to do. Lots of entertainment. I could only find a couple of pictures but I'll go ahead and post them. For some reason my daughter thought it was important to get a picture of Binion's. Something about a poker tournament... And if you look past my two cute daughters, you can get a sense of the atmosphere:

I agree it's a fun area and the more stuff that goes in there, the better the area should become.
athena28 2 Posted September 14, 2008 Yeah, I've never made it to Fremont St. That's why part of me hopes they move the con from the Hilton. Then I can go and see more.
VaBeachGuy 12 Posted September 15, 2008 Well regardless of where they put it I hope they do bring it back and update it to include Enterprise and ST XI of course, but I hope they keep the overall DS9 theme and Quarks and all that.

We spent 3 out 5 days there and it was awesome.... the store was nearly sold out, but I got a lot of great pictures.... if it reopens I will go back asap. Thanks for the info. I will keep checking back for updates.
