New Voyages Updates

Recommended Posts

I have added this thread so that users of Startrekfans.net have a regular place on the site to catch up and stay informed with updates on the Star Trek New Voyages productions.

For those who have not heard of Star Trek New Voyages, it is a fan project involved in the creation of episodic film productions focusing on the original crew of the starship Enterprise. Produced by Cow Creek Films the entire crew has been recast and stories are set after the third season of Star Trek, designed as a continuation of the series. Once finished the "webisodes" are available for free download at their site newvoyages.com. The work they turn out is very good indeed and highly recommended, definitely worth a look!

The Mission of "New Voyages"

We believe in the type of future envisioned by Gene Roddenberry. "New Voyages" is our vision of Star Trek. A Star Trek set in the 23rd century and created in the 21st. It's a Star Trek with a familiar look, a familiar crew, but something new, and we think, something special.

There are other fan films - some want to imitate the 60's look and feel of the show - some are focused on other parts of Roddenberry's universe, and all are made with love and passion.

However, New Voyages is not the Trek of the 60's. It is the Trek of the future; a Trek that looks as modern and flows as fast as any action adventure show on TV today.

New Voyages was created in April of 2003 by James Cawley and Jack Marshall.  Our goal is to tell stories that fall within the 4th and 5th year of the five year mission.  These "short films", continue the original 5-year mission of the Enterprise and are produced currently at a rate of 2 per year.  As such we consider each short film an "event" not merely a new episode of a weekly TV show.

Enjoy the show - and enjoy the science fiction!

Slowly regaining conciousness after the two weeks of filming and getting too little sleep, I thought an update would be good...

Jack Marshall has already begun reviewing footage and even posted some screenshots!

Here are a few samples:

Here is a link our forums board and Jack's post: Jack's Post

I'll try to add a few "behind the scenes" shots as I continue to recoup after lack of sleep...

I have to thank James Cawley for fulfilling one of my dreams...

In our local fan club (USS Tahawus - Lake Placid, NY) my fictional character was an Efrosian (sp?). James promised me that someday we'd work it in.

With his push and Kevin Haney's incredible talents, my wish was granted and I was transformed into an alien for this episode.

I can't thank them enough ...

Talk about news !!!

We can finally officially announce another BIG name involved with Star Trek New Voyages.

Seems many people have taken a liking to the artwork on the walls in the Briefing Room screen grab.

(In case you're not sure which picure I'm speaking of, it's at the bottom of this post.)

It has been officially released that those pieces of art are actually digitally inserted and they were created by none other than...

.

.

.

.

.Wait for it...

.

.

.

.

Are you sure you wanna know?

.

.

.

.

 Mike Okuda!!! :P

In Mike's own words

"I digitized the emblems for the aircraft carrier and the NASA space shuttle test flights for a personal project. The ring ship mission patch was something I worked up on my own time for the bar in "First Flight" (ENT). The registry number for the ring ship, XCV-330, comes from a Rick Sternbach painting that he did for the movie Enterprise rec deck, as seen in ST-TMP."

Just how many more surprises can we come up with?!!! :inlove:

I get the live east coast feed here so that means 1600. They are finally doing something smart with what they mutated TSS into.

This was posted at TrekToday.com regarding the interview on G4:

James Cawley and Jeff Quinn, who play Kirk and Spock on Star Trek: New Voyages (of which Cawley is also a longtime executive producer) announced that they are in talks with George Takei (Sulu) to appear on the fan video series, following a recently produced episode with Walter Koenig (Chekov).

Speaking to G4's Attack of the Show, Cawley said that they were in negotiations with Takei and "It looks like he's going to step up to the plate and come back to Star Trek." When the host joked that he would need permission from Howard Stern, on whose radio show Takei is now an announcer, Cawley and Quinn said that they had heard Stern was a big Star Trek fan and they would be glad to have him too.

"NBC foolishly cancelled the show," Cawley noted, explaining that, as fans themselves, they wanted to be part of that universe. The New Voyages team decided to pick up where the original Star Trek left off.

Quinn was not a big fan until he met Cawley, he said, explaining that he needed a crash course in portraying the beloved character made famous by Leonard Nimoy and feeling concerned because this wasn't a situation like James Bond where several actors had made it their own; there was only one prototype.

As for Cawley, as "kind of the financier", he decided that even though everyone wanted to play Kirk, "the big chair was mine!"

Now, noted Quinn, it feels remarkable "to be validated by some of the people, the pros, who have been working on Star Trek since its inception back in the 60s." He named Rod Roddenberry and Koenig as just a few professionals connected with Star Trek who have been involved with New Voyages.

Guest Ktrek

I'm really looking forward to the next New Voyages episode! The last one. In Harm's Way, was excellent and it looks like you guys just keep getting better. When veterans like Walter Koenig, George Takei and Grace Lee Whitney want to be on your show you know you got something cookin'! Not to mention D.C. Fontana and David Gerrold writing episodes for you! I hope that New Voyages will live long and prosper!

what do I need to watch the episodes? Do I need Bit Torrent, if so, how do I use it? I usually use .wmv files

The episodes are currently released in *.wmv format. They are then archived in *.zip format to try and make the download files a bit smaller and therefore faster to download.

To get the episode, simply log onto http://www.startreknewvoyages.com then:

  •
  • click on the left side of the splash screen for 800 x 600 site or click on right side of splash screen for 1024 x 768

  • click on "Epsodes"

  • choose site to download from

Can one of you guys please provide a few links were I can download "Come What May", I saw about half of it ages ago but have not been able to find the whole thing.

Star Trek New Voyages' pilot, "Come What May" is available via the following link:
