Superb episode.

It had a DS9 tone to it, full of paranoia and conspiracy.

Jean Simmons was excellent as the woman on a witchhunt.

Brilliant.

One of my fave TNG eps. I give it a 5. A great story about a Federation witchhunt for a Romulan collaborator winds up on Jean-luc's front door when one of his crew, Simon Tarsus is believed to be the guy that the Federation is looking for because it is discovered he lied about being 1/4 Romulan on his application to Starfleet. Picard at his best and most argumentative. The courtroom scene was done so well that William Kunstler would weep. Just a great all around ep to watch. :look:

A wonderful 5 star episode from a strong 4th season. Some trivia from Memory Alpha wikipedia:

The events of "Conspiracy", "Sins of the Father", "The Best of Both Worlds", "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II", "Family", and "Data's Day" are referenced in this episode.

This is one of Michael Dorn's two favorite TNG episodes, the other being "The Offspring".

This episode was a bottle show, coming $250 000 under budget. (ST: TNG Companion)

This is the second appearance of the interrogation room set after "The Defector". It is a modification of the bridge of the original USS Enterprise as seen in the first three movies.

This is the only time in the run of the series that the inner isolation door in main engineering is seen; normally the outer door is seen after a warp core breach.

Both the unnamed Excelsior-class starship and Oberth-class starships seen in this episode are not named in the episode or the script. The identification of the Oberth-class as USS Cochrane is derived from the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion.

This episode is reminiscent of Senator Joseph McCarthy's Communist witch hunt hearings.

According to director Jonathan Frakes, on the TNG Season 4 DVD interviews, several shots from the episode were "stolen" from Judgment at Nuremberg, the 1961 Stanley Kramer film starring William Shatner.

This was the final episode to have music composed by Ron Jones. Jones was fired shortly afterwards for repeatedly arguing with Rick Berman and Peter Lauritson over what type of music was thought to be appropriate for the series.

Jean Simmons is an actress with a very long history. One of her most famous appearances is the role of Varinia at the side of Kirk Douglas in Stanley Kubrick´s Spartacus.

*Jean Simmons is also known as a major Star Trek fan* <_< :nono:
