Dr Bashir is visited by the mysterious Sloan from Section 31 on the night before he is to depart on a diplomatic mission to the Romulan homeworld.

 

Section 31 wants Dr. Bashir to gather information about the Romulans while he is on his mission but the Doctor is reluctant. After discussing the situation with Capt Sisko Bashir agrees, but it is all a ploy to discover what Section 31 is up to.

 

While on Romulus Doctor Bashir is approached by Koval, the leader of the Romulan Tal'Shiar and for information about The Quickening virus, Sloan sees this as on opening for Bashir to get close to Koval and assess his health.

i like it because to me, it was one of the original elements of suspicion and suspense brought from TNG. add in section 31, a doctor who as a serious case of paranoia, then the romulan senate who trusts no one, got yourself an episode.

Sloane is at his oily best as he "dies" then comes back to remind Bashir of his "duty". Classic DS9.
