Thanks VBG. It was a great tribute. My dad is a retired disabled veteran. And my grandfather(my mother's side) flew & and saw action in WWII (he passed away 10 years ago on July 11th <_< ). Jim Phaserman 0 Posted May 31, 2004 A little background on some traditions for memorial day. Flags on fixed staffs are flown at half staff (Mast for those of us in the Navy) until noon. Barbeques are common. I would ask, though, that you say a prayer, if you are a religious person, for those who have sacrificed so much for our country. Radio stations will often play alot of patriotic music. "American Soldier" and "Some gave all" are very popular.
Theunicornhunter 2 Posted May 31, 2004 That's a good tribute VBG, thanks for reminding us. If I could add that when saying those prayers it might be good to remember the children, spouses and parents that are grieving the loss of a loved one killed in action. VaBeachGuy 12 Posted May 31, 2004 I'd also like to highlight again that Memorial Day isn't a day to honor Veterans, it isn't a day to Honor the military and it's not even a day to honor America. For those things we have Veterans Day, Armed Forces Day and The Fourth Of July. Memorial Day is specifically a day to remember and honor those that died in service to our country. scaleman 0 Posted May 31, 2004 Even though i'm not in the military, i feel this is the least i can do *stands at attention and salutes those who have fallen*. Thank you to those who have fought and died for our country, who have sacrificed everything to protect those here at home, may we never forget that which they've done for us all, and shall we always pray they rest in peace and happiness forever.
VaBeachGuy 12 Posted May 31, 2004 Radio stations will often play alot of patriotic music. "American Soldier" and "Some gave all" are very popular. I used "Some Gave All" in the posting, it's a good song for the day. Here's the words: I knew a man called him Sandy KaneFew folks even knew his name But a hero yes was he Left a boy came back a man Still many just don’t understand About the reasons we are free I can’t forget the look in his eyes Or the tears he cried As he said these words to me All gave some and some gave all And some stood through for the red, white and blue And some had to fall And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall Some gave all... Now Sandy Kane is no longer here But his words are oh so clear As they echo throughout our land For all his friends who gave us all Who stood the ground and took the fall To help their fellow man Love your country and live with pride And don’t forget those who died America can’t you see All gave some and some gave all And some stood through for the red, white and blue And some had to fall And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall Some gave all... And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall, yes recall Some gave all Some gave all...
