  1. Christmas is in the air in Iraq! Tommy informed me that he will be standing a "Santa Watch" tonight, keeping a lookout for a sleigh with eight tiny reindeer, and will be standing by to provide security for Santa when he makes his rounds with 3/82. He also wanted me to tell everyone here that he wishes you all a merry christmas, happy new year.

By the way, when I asked him what he wanted for Christmas when he called yesterday, the answer might or might not surprise you.

He didn't ask for a trip home, or even a day without a patrol. He said all he wants for Christmas is a kiss from Nikki, and for the Packers to make the playoffs!

  2. Dear Friends...

We, the Phaserman family, have alot of issues we need to address. These aren't limited to just Tom's deployment and Gary's work issues. There are other, deeper issues we need to address, and try to fix.

We're going to be taking a leave from Startrekfans.net, and several other forums that we inhabit. This may be quick, it may take a while. We just aren't sure. We all want you to know we're going to miss you all, and we enjoy coming here and hanging out, but right now, the issues we face take precedence over our participation in the number of internet communities we frequent.

I want to thank everyone here, all the friends we've made, even the folks we don't always see eye to eye with, and especially VBG and AE and the rest of the staff here for making our time here, for the most part, enjoyable.

We hope, once everything is resolved, we can return to these communities once more. Thanks for the fun times, the good memories, and the friendships.

    Sincerly,

    Jim

    Julie

    Gary

    Krissy

    Tom

    Darryl

  3. You probably dont know his story

Most will never speak his name

You wont see him in your dreams tonight

But you owe him just the same

Since that awful day in September

    Hes proudly stood to fight

    To serve his grieving nation

He needed to do what was right

Hed never admit to being a hero

    Thats not was heroes do

Instead of basking in the limelight

Hes fighting for the red, white, and blue

Every moment he misses his family

    Every day brings another fight

But, its a small price to pay for freedom

To let his son sleep safe at night

He never asked to leave his family

He didnt ask to go to war

Never once has he asked himself

What in the hell am I fighting for?

Let somebody else fight for freedom!

Im tired of getting low pay!

This is what I get for the sacrifice,

    Of giving my life away?

    He proudly serves his country

He wears his ribbons for all to see

Hes served Old Glory with honor

And hes fought for our liberty.

  4. I think alot of the E-4s (Specialists) and almost all of the E-5s (Sergeants) and E-6s (Staff Sergeants) are on their second tour with the unit. Infantry Brigades tend to rotate through on a 10-15 month deployment, then train and reform for 18-24 months, then redeploy again.

  5. At my elementary school, we were pretty much allowed to have fun. There were teachers and Playground monitors there, and the recess area was divided in half by grade: 1-3 on one side, 4-6 (later 5th) on the other.

I remember one girl in my brother's class fell off the jungle gym and had to be taken out on a stretcher. Her parents didn't sue the school. Now, I have to make sure I say the precisely right thing or else I get sued. Being a teacher today is harder than it was for the teachers who inspired me.

  6. extremely sad. I'm not looking forward to telling mom, she loves the guy and doesn't know about this

His wife doesn't know yet, and how is she going to explain to the children?

That's a tough thing to do with young children, Cara. The concept that someone is dead is a tough one for alot of people to grasp, especially young children.

  7. By the way, I invited two of the leaders of that board, known there as

-=XFS=- -=Z=- and -=XFS=- Darkshadow to come over here and check it out, compare, and contrast. Hopefully, they will understand why I am a "Dissatisfied Customer" so to speak

  8. Alright, so after a week or so of checking out another message board, this one run by the gaming clan X-Fleet (www.x-fleet.net), I have determined that I love STF. Here, we can discuss our varying views on many things, from Worf's haircut to Joe Lieberman's Eyebrows without flaming each other, or getting...well, rude. X-Fleet has no such standards. During my time there, I earned the respect of several members, but a few (More numerous than those who seemed to like me) seemed to take every shot at me they could. I'll be sending a note to a friend of mine, who is a staff member there, expressing my thanks for allowing me to check it out. Also, I will be tendering my "Resignation" from the board, citing that the atmopshere there...well, it just ain't exactly the friendly, welcoming kind of place that one would look for in an online community. I know, this is more of a blog post and a rant about a sub-par message board, but Hey, I figured, most people don't read my blogs, but alot of people would read this. So, there it is. I love this place. The conduct of the members here is a credit to the leadership: VBG, AE, and the entire moderating staff, who work hard to keep this place nice. Thanks mod-squad, and to all the members who keep this place enjoyable.

    Sincerly,

    The Jimmy

  9. It's the most wonderful time of the year...

There will be much touchdown throwing

and ref's whistles blowing when Game Time is here...

It's the most wonderful time of the year.

It's here, folks. Football on all levels is back! Training camp has started, and everyone is looking forward to a new season.

As for me, not only am I back coaching, but I'm training to take a new job next year. Our head coach is retiring after this season, and the Defensive Coordinator is taking his place, so I've been appointed to assume the Defensive leadership. Not that that bothers me at all. And how bout that game last night? Raaaaaaaaaaada's beat the Iggles 16-10. Are you ready? well, are you?

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

  10. 1. If you can drive down the road and see a Packers' vanity plate and a Bears Vanity Plate...

    2. If you root for (circle one: Brewers/Cubs/Sox) and think the other two are minor-league teams...

    3. If you know what the Chedderline or Cheese Curtain is....

    4. If you know what a FIB is...

    5. If the bowling alley or bar has both a Packers and a Bears flag and or neon sign in the window...

You might live near the Illinois/Wisconsin border

  11. I wish I had a recording of the Chaplain from NTC reciting that, Krissy. Perhaps I will record a version and upload it...

And very good job with the Tribute, Krissy. For those of you who haven't guessed, my sister in law here is pretty patriotic. She likes to say, "If my patriotism offends you, then that is YOUR problem, NOT mine."
