    I think as can be told through the alternative theme music this is an AU version of star trek.... Not the trek we grew up with. This is what is reinvigorating the series, as it opens the characters up to differences and also the situations are going to be somewhat skewed because of the various differences. The trek we know and love exists in a different universe under quantum physics. this is just a telling of a different universe. I like this idea because it allows more people to start with a high tech version and allows more people in to see it as a viable non cheesy entity. And Shatner had more cheese than all the chicago pizzas eaten in a year.

    Isn't the movie the alternate timeline? So if the planets were destroyed in the movie, they remain in the prime timeline and are gone in the altered timeline.

    What it is, which I hadn't fully thought of when I initially posted is that Romulus and Remus are destroyed in the future. Nero and Spock get thrown into the past (was it 129 years?). So when Nero and Spock get to the past they're there at a time before Romulus and Remus are destroyed. Romulus will still be destroyed, but not till the sun goes super nova in another 129 years (if I got that number right).

     

    So Vulcan is gone, 10,000+ Vulcans are all that's left but Romulus and Remus are still there... for now.

     

    The question in my mind now is this, is the whole "Romulan sun goes Super Nova" thing all part of an alternate universe and not part of Real Star Trek?

    Firstly, as a point of order, it is not the Romulan sun that goes nova. It is another star within the empire's boundaries which for some reason expands outward as it goes nova and absorbs energy from what it destroys, feeding its expansion. It will eventually threaten other major planets if it isn't stopped. Romulus was just too close to be saved in time.

    Just to be a pedant a typical nova usual goes something like this; As the sun/star runs out of its usual sources for fusion it expands as it draws upon the heavier elements (A la whatever star that killed romulus) then as those resources are used up it collapses upon itself (now here is the fun part) If it continues to fall upon itself and is of a sufficient enough size, it can become super dense and has the theoretical possibility of either becoming a black hole itself (extremely like or becoming a brown dwarf (a stellar object with a mass between that of a gas giant and a star, some debate is whether they have achieved fusion but for sake of argument here, it has) between collapsing on itself and brown dwarf it blows of a huge amount of debris (gas etc)

     

    So essentially Jack when you say some reason it expanded and absorbed energy (beg to differ it is collating elements for fusion ergo transforming into energy, but neither her nor there) it is actually fulfilling its actual death throes of being supernova. [here endeth the science nerdism]

     

    Big bug bear with the film is the death of the romulan ship.

     

    Under relativity

     

    to an outside observer action near to a large gravity object become slower as the gravity of the large gravity object acts on time, however to those actually near to the large gravity object time behaves in an apparently normal manner (basic rule is everything is relative to the observer) time speeds up the more gravity there is, but to those experiencing the speeded up time, they won't notice it. (which would indicate Bajor with 26 hours may possibly be in an area with less gravity than earth)

     

    Given this, the enterprise would have seen the Romulan ship in a state of suspension and not destroyed immediately (Time being slower for the observer than the observed in this equation) it could have taken centuries if not millennia for the destruction of the Romulan ship. Where as for the Romulans themselves it would have been a momentary thing.

    LAKELAND, Fla., April 28 (UPI) -- A Polk County, Fla., deputy with 21 years service resigned after his wife, a convicted felon, took his patrol car for a spin, sheriff's officials said.

    Deputy Charles Buckner, 44, turned in his badge after his wife, Gail Buckner, 38, allegedly used the car for a joy ride in Lakeland with her mother, Sharon Cooper, 54, and a friend, Alexander James Quintasket, 19, also a convicted a felon, The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Tuesday.

     

    The two women were charged with vehicle theft, theft of a firearm and impersonating a law-enforcement officer, arrest documents said. Gail Buckner also faces charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Quintasket was arrested on similar charges.

     

    The three were arrested Sunday after another sheriff's deputy spotted the patrol car driving erratically and followed it to the Buckner home, the Sentinel reported, adding no information was immediately available on Gail Buckner and Quintasket's convictions.

     

    Thought a deeper look was worthwhile. As a cop why did he stick it out with a convicted felon. Doesn't that call into question his police record somehow???

    Dominic Keating (Lt. Reed, Enterprise) in Species IV, The Awakening. He had a really bad Aussie accent and that put pay to the movie IMHO. I turned over. This was obviously a straight to video thing

    I was 22 and a lot less wise, and a lot of a lot less experienced.

     

    Just for a taster, both my parents died in that time. I am about to graduate university, fopund what I think is my lifes partner (trust me the word partner aptly sums it up.) And am finding life a lot less difficult now I have stopped putting road blocks in my way, there is NOTHING insurmountable, that comes from someone who has legally been homeless.

    100 with humidity is the point I complain. No this was something completely out of the norm,the last time it happened was 18 years ago,

     

    I do agree with the points made, however for the most part this country tends to habve a large commuter base, utilising public transport, when in their opinions it becomes to unsafe for 17ft tall buses (Double-Deckers) and when the local governments (Councils) failed to LISTEN to advanced weather warnings the raod ways weren't gritted to facilitate travel, unfortunately tomorrow it all becomes ice and life gets difficult. The railways considering how much shear railway it is I cn understand how not all worked and I can understand how also not all were prepared, I am just not sure how to get to work.

    I live in London, and most years the idea of a white Christmas was a joke, in fact it was this year. It’s a pity that what has happened today, didn’t happen then, everyone would have had the cliché.

     

    What am I talking about?

     

    It has seriously snowed in London, with temperatures of – 30 in some parts of the UK.

    In my home town the snow has been up to 1.5ft deep, all transport has ceased. The traditional black cabs of London are refusing to drive in treacherous conditions. The trains have all stopped as well, not to mention that the buses were all cancelled as of 3am this morning, river buses are still running, Only one of the 12 underground lines is running, all airports are closed,. In the states this would be called a snow day.
