  1. If you don't want to say the pledge, then don't. I've got no problem with non-participation. However, I don't see that the issue is lawsuit-worthy. As has been pointed out, it's not a pledge to God. It's an acknowledgment of this nation's heritage.

As for the pldges to the Christian flag and the Bible, private schools are allowed to do such things and have every right to do so. The majority of "private schools" are actually Christian or Catholic schools, or at least associated with some other religion or denomination. If you choose to go to a school that is Christian in nature, you should expect to hear the pledge to the Christian flag. If you don't believe in such things, I don't see how complaints could be valid as a conscious choice was made to go there (rather than to the more easily accessible public school), and since it wouldn't have taken a parent much effort to find out the religious nature of the school.

In a rush. The above is a bit jumbled, I'm sure.

  2. I echo Jack's statements. I personally prefer the lighter version of Trek. I enjoy dark episodes when they are interesting and well-written --I enjoy DS9 very much-- but I'm more a fan of that "utopian vision" of the future, even for a ship thousands of light years from home.

I loved that holding to StarFleet ideals was paramount to Janeway and that it helped her to get home. I would be the same way. Should they have been tested more? Should there have been more moral conflict? Probably. However, if Voyager had behaved as the Equinox, why would you even want to go home anymore? You're just going to end up in a penal colony for years on end for breaking every code in the book. I'd rather stick to my integrity and ideals and see where they take me.

Agreed on the fact that Voyager was far too often a "super-ship". I don't care if 7 did provide them with tactical info on the Borg. Voy took on those cubes FAR too easily inthe few episodes where the Borg are encountered. (And a tactical cube? How unnecessary...).

Some weak script-writing aside, it was the Starfleet-principles-first/ getting-home-second aspect of the show that I enjoyed so much. Dark is good, but I'd rather see integrity rewarded, or even punished if necessary. Moral ambiguity bugs me to no end...

    Just personal taste, I guess.

  3. Stargate is bigger than Trek right now, but it won't replace the legend that is Star Trek. Trek is more than just some shows and movies - it's part of society and history. Pretty much everyone knows what Trek is; not as many are familiar with Stargate.

That said, I like the Stargates and hope they continue to grow in popularity.

  4. I'll have to go with Archer. He fired a few shots the other captains wouldn't have even considered.

    Besides:

Kirk... I'm not as familiar with TOS.

    Picard valued diplomacy more.

Sisko didn't even have a station that could FIRE weapons til... what... season 3 or 4?

Janeway usually got fired at first.
