  1. Replicators.

We could solve world hunger and clothe the needy overnight!

Transporters would also be wonderful.Imagine transporting vital medecines across the oceans or continents to areas of the world that very badly need them.

Unfortunately,we all know that any of these technologies would be perveted by the military toward their own ends.

  2. Oh.I never would have guessed, even with the same avatar.

I thought about changing my identity the week after I became a member here,as I wanted a Jedi-themed name (but I didn't feel to 'safe' joining a Trek fan site with a Star Wars identity :)....I'd had some bad experiences doing that).Sirius kind of grew on me after a while though, and now I am happy that I did not simply "vanish" and re-register with a new identity,as I was considering.

Well, nice to meet you all over again "Goose". :)

  3. I was in one of those mini-marts at a gas station one time, and I saw a rack of bumper stickers.  One of them caught my eye:

"Very funny, Scotty.  Now beam down my clothes!"

Some kid that drives around a dayglo orange hearse around my neighborhood has several stickers on his car,and the one you've mentioned is one of them.

  4. I once tried to group my TOS videos by order fo stardate.... :)

    I'll never do that again!

At the moment I have everything all jumbled together, and in no particular order.I suppose I really ought to take the time to place them into some sort of order, but as I've started to purchase the season sets of TNG and DS9,and convert my Trek films into DVDs,I've sort of began to neglect my videos.

When I do have all the series' sets I'll place them in this order:

    TOS

    TNG

    DS9

    Voyager

    Enterprise

    TOS movies

    TNG movies

    DS9 movie(s) (Oh,I hope,I hope,I hope!!!!)

Misc (shows like Denise Crosby's Trekkies, etc.)

  5. Well, the series needs an arch or premise of some sort.I'd find it incredibly boring if a new series was just a new crew and a new ship (or space station,or the Academy) and had no reason for being other than simply being another Trek series with no long-range direction.

  6. Well, considering I married a woman that didn't care for Star Trek (she didn't dislike, just didn't know anything about it,other than the fact that Mr.Spock had pointy ears),I say yes.

  7. Well, when I went to school my grades always ranged from B's to C's with the occasional D thrown in (usually in a math class) :look:

I'm afraid I was never a great student, simply a passing one. That didn't really change in college, either.I did enough to pass and that was about it.The only class I ever truly excelled in was geography.I always got an A in geography, and was the captain of my elementery and Jr high world culture studies teams (we'd challenge other schools to geographical, political, and current events trivia).Since most of my teammates were doofus's(I remember one of my teammates was asked "What is the capital of california. His answer,New York city" :) ) we never won,but I usually won an award for my individual performances through the debating seasons.I didn't join the team in High school.By then I was much too "cool" to be involved in such a nerdy pursuit (But,oh how I missed it :) ).

  8. So far as I know,I own every TOS book there is.I browse the various book sites on a weekly basis for TOS novels I don't have, and I visit second-hand book stores a couple of times a month. Its been a while since I've run into an older novel that I don't already own a copy of.Its mostly the new ones that I have to hunt down.I used to order directly from Pocket Books, but they have since stopped that service.I now order my books from another mail-order book service.

  9. The Original Series is by far my favorite of all the Star Trek series ever made, and the TOS novels are my favorite books.Aside from its being a groundbreaking and inspirational series that challenged its viewers to think, and that challeneged many of the social ills of its time,TOS had a certain romance about it that was not unlike the fantasy stories I also loved.James T. Kirk was a Knight, noble, brave, just, and the Enterprise was his steed. It was a fantastical era when men were men, where all women were gorgeous and intelligent, and where good and evil were viewed in terms of absolute black and white. There were very few areas of gray.I liked that.

  10. I'd love to see Riker and Troi return in a series about the Titan.

I wouldn't necessarily want to see a lot of old characters from the other series on the show however.I want new characters to fall in love with.I wonder if Frakes and Sirtis would want to make a commitment to another 7-year series? Its very hard work, afterall.

  11. I heard about the links between ancient north Africa and the America's back in the 70's on an episode of "In Search of" with Leonard Nimoy. In fact,a group of researchers built a ship using ancient Egyptian materials and construction methods and attempted to sail from the mediterranean sea to the coast of Brazil....they almost made it.Their vessel broke up at sea about 150 miles short of their goal.Yet,they proved their point that such a trip was possible.

I have also heard of research that found evidence of a Chinese presence in California prior to Christopher Columbus' voyage.Several ancient chinese artifacts including stone ship's anchors and bits of jewlery were found along a section of California's coastline.

    Its all very fascinating stuff,really.

  12. A Star Trek booksite I just found says that Riker and Troi are married in their 15th-year of service aboard Enterprise.

Now,I don't know if that's official or not,but the book says this apparently.By my calculations that would mean Nemesis takes place sometime in 2379.Hope that helps a little.I couldn't find anything about a stardate.I'll assume the movie and its novelization do not mention any stardates.
