  1. My favorite is Taco Bell, but I wanted to vote off the list if I could, so I picked my second favorite - MacDonalds, which is spelled McDonald's. :look:

Looks like he spelled it right to me. :(

That's because it was changed. Originally it was spelt incorrectly.

*shakes head*..so what if it was no biggie the poll is about fast food not spelling mistakes :look:*YAWNS*

My post wasn't really concerned with any spelling issues, but with the fact that CJLP was originally correct and it had been stated that he was not after a modification had been made to the spelling. The reason I posted is that I found that to be a bit peculiar for some reason.

  2. Thought this meteorite story was kind of interesting, especially considering the name of the family whose house it hit: The Archers. The story's from the BBC.

Space rock smashes into NZ home

A grapefruit-sized meteorite has crashed through the roof of a house in Auckland, New Zealand.

The rock hit a sofa and then bounced back up to the ceiling, before coming to rest under a computer.

"There was just a huge explosion and we looked around and there was just dust everywhere," home-owner Brenda Archer told New Zealand television.

The meteorite was probably travelling at about 500 km/h (300 mph) when it hit the house, experts say.

"I'm just glad no one was sitting on the couch because they would have got absolutely crowned," Mrs Archer said.

    A beauty

When the meteorite entered the atmosphere, it is estimated to have been the size of a basketball, travelling at about 50,000 km/h (30,000 mph).

Collectors worldwide are expected to offer the Archers cash for the 1.3-kg (3lb) rock.

Meteorite expert Joel Schiff from Auckland University said it could be worth more than US$5,000.

"Falling through a roof is really an exceptional event and this is a beautiful, large specimen," he said.

The overwhelming majority of meteorites entering the atmosphere burn up before reaching the Earth.

The chances a house being hit by a space rock have been measured in the billions-to-one - although two such incidents were reported last September - in New Orleans in the US and in India's Orissa state.

  4. The idea of what would have been if Nazis had controlled the world has been done so many times it's really tiresome now. I just hope they don't go down that road and use it as little more than an interesting backdrop for something else. The idea that Nazis could have dominated the world has been pushed on the public for so long I'm sick of it. Let's face it, they didn't really have much chance once the rest of the world mobilised and even the underarmed Russian military stopped them (for various reasons). It's just a goofball concept nowadays.

  5. The ending wasn't the greatest. It's certainly going to be interesting to see how they deal with it next season, but it was so disconnected with the whole Xindi plot that it was a bit of a letdown to the arc. They could've moved into another story without totally throwing out any link to the current timeline. I'm sure they'll put them together somehow next season, but it's really hard to see much reason for this at the moment.

  6. Best food? Don't you mean least bad? I avoid them all whenever possible, though I have to admit I order a pizza now and then. But, since pizza costs me almost as much as a quality meal, I try not to even do that.

Check out this trailer for "Supersize Me," a documentary about a man, the director, who went around a bunch of cities in the States and ate breakfast, lunch and dinner only at McDonald's for a month straight.

    "Supersize Me"

McDonald's has stopped with the supersize option on their menu since the movie has hit the headlines, although it may not be connected. Here's the review by Ebert and Roeper:

    Enjoy your next meal.

  7. I would like it... if I were 12 years-old.

It's just boring for an adult. I nearly fell asleep in the first one. The second one I rented on DVD to see if it had improved and it caused my computer to crash and messed up my DVD software with incessant questions about whether I needed a new player. Ugh.

  8. I agree that there's no place for that here, though I'm thinking about the message board itself more than PMs. At times, people seem to have a very false sense of familiarity with each other considering they've never met. These terms come across as extremely condescending at times and I cringe not just when they're used in reference to me, but when they're used in reference to other people. What people seem to fail to understand is that intimate terms are meant for intimate situations where they won't be overheard, or in this case read, by others. With that said, I've also noticed that a lot of people who use such words here tend to be younger and perhaps still learning about the boundaries of appropriate communication.

  9. So much for the Romulan war and founding of the UFP.

Ya know, I'm quite dissapointed in Trek fans today.  They used to fight for Trek, like fanbases do for other shows today that are threatened with cancellation.  When we heard there were no plans for a DS9 nor VOY movie, did fans unite and campaign for one?  No, they said, "Oh, it probably won't happen."  With ENT's four season potentially being the last, fans are saying, "Welp, that was fun.  Now whut?"  What about the campaign to get season 4?  Why not campaign for another network to pick up season 5?

I'd join that campaign to keep Enterprise, just send me their address.

As for the Romulan War being a movie, that's kind of a large topic for a movie. The Dominion War lasted 2 seasons.

They could tell the Romulan War over the coarse of 2-4 movies.

Not really. Nobody would have a clue if they missed any of them. I think a war is more interesting as a series and can show how the characters develop. A movie is better suited to one major event - perhaps the end of the war?

  10. Fine, he writes, too. The point remains that a producer and a director are not the same thing. Do you get it yet?

And who was he explaining the comment to? And who cares? Everytime the guy opens his mouth some wannabe starts to dissect every word he says, misconstrue, twist and warp the meaning into something that supposedly isn't Trekkie enough. I can't believe the man even bothers at this point because it's not like he needs the money.

  11. But besides the point, i guess after working for this many years as a director berman may be getting tired of it, to be frank. We may need some "new blood", regardless whether berman is "at fault". Trying to balance myself here guys, is it working?

What the heck are you talking about? He's a producer, not a director. If you can't even get these two jobs straight, it's hard to take anything you say with more than a grain of salt.

People complain about him mixing up an elevator and a turbolift. Guess what? A turbolift is a kind of elevator if you just think about it. Perhaps he was trying to explain what he meant to some not very Trek-savvy journalist. I'm not sure about this, but I am pretty sure a director and a producer are quite different.

  12. I agree that there is a lot of unfair criticism. I recall he once said that Trek would always have a large fan base or something along those lines. A lot of fans, likely disgruntled ones that just didn't take to recent productions, claimed he was taking them for granted. That's one way to look at it, but another is to take it as an understanding and appreciation of the strong fan base the franchise enjoys.

On the other hand, we're talking about TV viewers so maybe we shouldn't expect too much intelligence.

  13. Yey, it looks like another ship. Booraa. What ship doesn't on Star Trek? As far as I'm concerned, almost all of the ships on every series ripped off the basic design of the TOS ship except for the Defiant. Even the shuttlepolds look like the TOS ones. This doesn't hurt continuity, it strengthens it.

  14. It's still a fairly ridiculous concept that people without training in the specifics of a piece of technology can use it even if they can speak the language. At the very least they should lack efficiency and skill when they do take over.

  15. The teacher was a moron to show that to put it politely. Regardless of what one believes about education, obviously others are going to have other values and notions about what is appropriate in the classroom. Equally obvious is the fact that some parents would oppose this and it would cause major problems between the administration and parents. He's a fool and will likely be punished for this. No matter what you say to students before they see it, I don't think it's possible to prepare people for anything that shocking and so the students couldn't even have made an informed choice.
